Shahbaz Youssefi e7ce481f 2023-11-01T22:44:22 Consolidate parallel compilation in front-end This cleans up the multiple compilation task implementations in the backends and consolidates them in the front-end. The front-end is then able to do the compilation in an unlocked tail call instead if desired (in a future change). This change is in preparation for having the program link tasks directly wait on the shader compilation tasks. As a result, the "shader resolve" should not be needed to access the shader compilation results; it should be enough to wait for the compilation job. This change therefore moves post-processing of results to the compilation job itself as they did not need to actually be done after compilation is done (merely after translation is done). As a side effect, shader substition and other debug features should now work for the GL backend as they are now done before back-end compilation. The whole design is that we start a disjoint query in D3D11 at the first timestamp request and keep it continuously running in current context. Only end it and read it back when the user queries if there is a disjoint. We cache the frequency and assume it doesn't change. For the first timestamp, we create a temporary D3D disjoint query and end it so we have a frequency to convert the ticks to nanoseconds. Chris Dalton f551faf7 2022-12-01T17:14:14 Use typed UAV loads for pixel local storage, when supported D3D11.3 supports typed UAV/ROV loads on some hardware. Check for this feature and use it when available. I haven't been able to measure a meaningful performance difference from this change, presumably because the bottleneck is memory bandwidth, but it's simple and more consistent with the other backends. It is valid for DComp to give us an offset into a texture atlas, for example with some video overlays. If we do have an offset, gl_FragCoord must also be offset to point to the correct pixel in the surface. However, when sampling a depth24stencil8 texture in D3D11, the stencil ends up in the G component. So in this mode, swizzle the result from G to R. In order to sample stencil, use the appropriate stencil-only format for the SRV: X24_TYPELESS_G8_UINT for d24s8, X32_TYPELESS_G8X24_UINT for d32fs8. This required adding a new field to D3D11 Format. For consistence with Chromium and other Chromium-based projects, the display name is now always snake_case, and that's what's specified in the json files. This also makes camelCase variable name generation trivial (as opposed to the other way around). Feature overrides now accept both snake_case and camelCase names to ensure compatibility with existing scripts. This is done by removing _ and comparing override names with feature names in lower case. This change enables them in release builds so we can debug GPU memory consumption given traces or full memory dumps. Where it made sense, existing names were shortened for brevity. A future CL can shorten the names further by removing the words texture, SRV, DSV, etc since D3D already outputs this type information. The changes include: - Make a common utility rx::GetSamplePosition() function. D3D11 and Vulkan use the same standard sample positions/locations for 1, 2, 4, 8, and 16 samples. The D3D11 back-end has a utility function for this, which is being moved to a common location--for use by both the D3D11 and Vulkan back-ends. - Texture::setStorageMultisample() handles converting the "requested number of samples" to the actual number of samples used (e.g. converting 3 to 4), supported by the underlying back-end). The actual number used is stored in gl::TextureState::mImageDescs, for use by other GLES commands. - Change some end2end tests to not make assumptions about the supported number of samples, but to properly query what is supported. Austin Kinross 11dc1635 2019-09-18T14:46:23 Add support for generating UWP (Windows Store) projects again Until late 2017, ANGLE supported Windows Store apps on Windows 8.1, Windows Phone 8.1, and Windows 10 (via the Universal Windows Platform, aka UWP). Unfortunately ANGLE deprecated support for Windows Store when it switched from GYP to GN in 2017. Since then, users have been able to use Microsoft\angle for their UWP apps but this isn't ideal since it's based on a 2017 copy of Google\angle. This PR bring back support for UWPs, so that UWP users can use Google\angle again. Specifically it: - Adds support for generating UWP projects via GN - Adds helper/util functions specific to UWP (they're mostly similar to the desktop Windows helpers) - Fixes some existing Windows Store code that's rotted since 2017 - Disables async shader compilation for UWPs, since its implementation calls wait on the UI thread (which is forbidden in UWPs) - Renames 'ANGLE_ENABLE_WINDOWS_STORE' to 'ANGLE_ENABLE_WINDOWS_UWP', since ANGLE only support UWPs now - Fixes misc other related issues (such as dependencies on D3D9 headers in API-agnostic code) Note that this doesn't bring back support for Windows/Phone 8.1. So replace gl_VertexID with (gl_VertexID + angle_BaseVertex) if any. Workaround for Vulkan GLSL: gl_InstanceIndex on Vulkan includes baseInstance. So replace gl_InstanceIndex with (gl_InstanceIndex - angle_BaseInstance) when angle_BaseInstance is declared. This appears to be caused by the UpdateSubResource call, which is worked around by enabling the other image upload path that ANGLE supports.
