Vulkan: Let program warmup continue passed link
The warmup task does not actually affect the link results, so there is
no reason to wait for it when the application queries the link status.
This change allows the warm up task to continue in parallel until the
program is used at draw time. This allows the warm up to be more
efficient when the link itself is not parallelized.
For applications that create programs in the middle of every frame, it's
still likely best to disable warm up (as the following immediate draw
will already effectively do the warm up).
Note that currently the warm up code in the Vulkan backend is not
completely thread-safe, and so the program still blocks on that task
before the first draw can happen (or the program is modified in any
way).

Make link job directly wait on compile job
Previously, program link waited on the compile job on the calling thread
before launching the link job. As a result, sequences of intermixed
compile and link would get largely serialized as such:
Main Thread Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4
Compile -------> Compile
Compile -----------|----------> Compile
Link | |
Wait | |
| | |
|<--------------/--------------/
\------------------------------------------> Link
Compile -------> Compile |
Compile -----------|----------> Compile |
Link | | |
Wait | | |
| | | |
|<--------------/--------------/ |
\---------------------------------------------|-----------> Link
Compile -------> Compile
Compile -----------|----------> Compile
Link | | | |
Wait | | | |
| | | | |
...
With this change, the main thread no longer waits for compilation to
finish. It's the link job itself that does the waiting. This allows
the main thread to go through Compile and Link commands without
blocking, generating as many jobs as needed. The above scenario
therefore becomes:
Main T1 T2 T3 T4 T5 T6 T7 T8 T9
C ----> C
C ------|----> C
L ------|------|----> L
C ------|------|-------W---> C
C ------|------|-------|-----|----> C
L ------|------|-------|-----|------|----> L
C ------|------|-------|-----|------|-------W---> C
C ------|------|-------|-----|------|-------|-----|----> C
L ------|------|-------|-----|------|-------|-----|------|----> L
. \-----\------>/ | | | | | W
. | \-----\------>/ | | |
. | | \-----\------>/
. | | |
. | | |
This greatly improves the amount of parallelism compile and link jobs
get.
The careful observer may note that the link job being blocked on the
compile job is now wasting a thread from the thread pool. While this
change is strictly an improvement, parallelism can be further improved
if the link job is just not assigned to a thread until the corresponding
compile jobs are finished. This is currently not possible, but may be
if:
- Instead of a thread pool, the operating system's FIFO scheduler is
used. Then the operating system would automatically put blocking
tasks to sleep and pick up another task. This has the downside of
requiring threads to be created for each task.
- The thread pool work scheduler is enhanced to be made aware of
relationship between tasks and avoid scheduling jobs whose
dependencies are not yet met.
Alternatively, the number of threads in the pool can be increased by 30%
and hope for the best.

Use atomic counters early in perf warning macros
Before this CL, snprintf was called repeatedly to format the warning
message which was then discarded after 4 logs. snprintf showed up in
profiling at ~2% and this CL appears to yield an ~8% power
improvement in one of the traces (egypt_1500).
A mutex was previously used to avoid the race condition on the static
sRepeatCount variable. This CL avoids the need for that by using static
atomics instead.
Also updated the Debug macro to use the VK macro vararg approach so that
formatting only happens when the message is actually logged.

Move set/get uniform machinery to ProgramExecutable
This is done because some uniforms are internally added by the compiler
(draw ID, base vertex, and base instance) and are automatically set **on
the installed executable**.
This change fixes scenarios where a draw is done after a program has
failed a relink, and therefore is unable to correctly set the uniforms
(as it does not have access to the executable that is installed).
It also fixes draws that use those uniforms in a PPO.

Support for link to be entirely parallelized
The link job is split as such:
- Front-end link
- Back-end link
- Independent back-end link subtasks (typically native driver compile
jobs)
- Post-link finalization
Each step depends on the previous. These steps are executed as such:
1. Program::link calls into ProgramImpl::link
- ProgramImpl::link runs whatever needs the Context, such as releasing
resources
- ProgramImpl::link returns a LinkTask
2. Program::link implements a closure that calls the front-end link and
passes the results to the backend's LinkTask.
3. The LinkTask potentially returns a set of LinkSubTasks to be
scheduled by the worker pool
4. Once the link is resolved, the post-link finalization is run
In the above, steps 1 and 4 are done under the share group lock. Steps
2 and 3 can be done in threads or without holding the share group lock
if the backend supports it. Step 2 is not yet made independent of the
Context on some backends, and a frontend feature is used to make that
step either run on the main thread or as a worker thread.

Properly "install" program executables
According to GL:
- The program has an executable
- The executable is overwritten during link.
- After a failed link, queries of the executable may return
half-linked information
- On glUseProgram, the executable is installed in the context
- On glUseProgramStages, the executable is installed in the program
pipeline
- After a successful link, the executable is updated wherever the
previous executable of the program was installed.
This change implements exactly the above:
- The program's and the program pipeline's executables are now
shared_ptr. References to an executable in the context and PPO are
also through a shared_ptr. Installing an executable thus translates
to sharing the executable.
- The context and PPOs are made to not reference the program directly,
but work solely through the executable. As a result, the program is
free to create a new executable for link.
With this change, the link job will be free to modify the executable as
necessary because that will not be accessed until the link is done.
Note that previous changes made the backend executable accessed through
the frontend one, and moved all link results to the frontend and backend
executables as appropriate.

Clean up InfoLog usage during link
The info log doesn't really belong to ProgramExecutable; it belongs to
ProgramState. However, it is placed there for convenience since many
functions access it.
This change cleans up usage of InfoLog so the one in ProgramExecutable
is consistently used, but also that is turned into a reference to
ProgramState's InfoLog.
This is necessary for a follow up change that restores the previous
executable on link failure (and would thus otherwise lose the info log
of the failing link).

Make shader recompile while parallel linking safe
Prior to this change, Program* objects held references to Shader*
objects. This poses a problem where a shader recompile can race with a
program link, if the program link is done in parallel.
As a result, a good chunk of the link job is done serially and under the
share group lock. After this change, that is no longer a problem, and
most of the link can be made lockless/parallelized.
This change separates out the "compiled state" from the rest of the
shader state. This was already done for the front-end state (for the
sake of caching), but is also now done for the backends that need it.
The compiled state in turn is placed in a shared_ptr, and is shared with
the program. When a shader is compiled, its own shared_ptr is replaced
with a new object, leaving all programs currently compiling unaffected
and using the previous compilation results.
Once a program is linked, its references to compiled shader states is
updated.

Tightly pack LinkedUniform by using int16_t
There is a check of vector size when we link uniforms and the maximum
vector size is 4096 due to we clamp the maxUniformBlockSize to 64KB. In
reality, if we exceeds this number, program link will take really long
time and then hit failure. So there is no real need to keep all the
variables in 32 bit integer. This CL changes to 16 bit integer. Further,
sh::BlockMemberInfo and ActiveVariable data members are embeded into
LinkedUniform struct as well so that the unused variables can be removed
and data can be tightly packed. This also makes LinkedUniform easier to
maintain as a simple struct with basic data types. With this change,
LinkedUniform size is reduced from 108 bytes down to 60 bytes, 48 bytes
reduction. Given some apps has 200-ish uniforms, this CL reduces 48
bytes x 200 = ~9K memory just for uniforms per program (which goes
through hash compute and decompression and file reads).

Prevent shaders from recompiling while a link job is in progress
This will prevent a guarantee that link jobs can take further advantage
of. In particular, a good chunk of the link job is done serially and
under the share group lock due to this recompile-while-link issue.
After this change, that is no longer a problem, and most of the link can
be made lockless/parallelized.

Respect KHR_parallel_shader_compile for program link
Parellel shader compilation was using the single-threaded vs
multi-threaded pool appropriately, while program link was always being
multi-threaded.
This change makes sure the program link tasks uses the same pool as
shader compilation per KHR_parallel_shader_compile.

Move name and mappedName out of LinkedUniform struct
These are std::string objects. This CL moves these two data out of
LinkedUniform and into ProgramExecutable class, side by side with
mUniforms. With these two data moved out, LinkedUniform is now a simple
struct with basic data types, and I can memcpy entire vector of
uniforms.

Change LinkedUniform::arraySizes from std::vector to unsigned int
We always flatten multiple dimensional arrays in the uniform to a one
dimensional array, so the arraySizes can be simplified to unsigned int
instead of a vector. With this, we can now move the arraySize into the
simple mFixedSizeData struct and the normal memcpy will cover the
load/save.

Group fixed sized data of LinkedUniform into a struct
Most of gl::LinkedUniform struct is a basic types and can be simply
initialized with memcpy. This CL groups these together and encapsulate

fixed size data structure of basic types.

Metal: Implement parallel shader linking.
Update the Metal library cache to be thread safe. Change
absl::flat_hash_map back to std::unordered_map because the value types
now contain a mutex which must not move.
Only generate async compilation tasks for shaders that were not already
compiled and in the cache.
Collapse some of the link methods in ProgramMtl that only had one call
site. All linking is now done in ProgramMtl::link and
ProgramMtl::load.
Support disabling parallel linking using the new
enableParallelMtlLibraryCompilation feature.

Vulkan: Split Serial class into UniqueSerial and Serial
This CL splits Serial class into two classes: UniqueSerial and Serial.
UniqueSerial supports the object unique serial usage where there is ==
and != operator but no > or < comparison. UniqueSerial can have invalid
value, but Serial will not have invalid value (in next CL). The main
reason is for next CL we can further optimize out the invalid value
check in the QueueSerial comparison.

D3D: fix SSBOs used in vertex shaders.
Use the total number of pixel shader outputs as the base
UAV register for vertex and pixel shaders. This is less fragile than
making the vertex shader depend on the number of draw-time pixel shader
outputs.
Add a test that exercises SSBOs in vertex shaders, varying the number of
draw-time pixel shader outputs (which should have no effect on register
assignment).

D3D11: implement SSBOs in pixel and vertex shaders.
Since the 'u' register space for UAVs in pixel shaders is shared
with render targets, and the number of render targets may vary
depending on GL state, this required deferring register allocation
until draw-time output in DynamicHLSL.
Since non-compute shaders aren't able to immediately output the
SSBO declaration, initial register allocation was broken out from
ResourcesHLSL::shaderStorageBlocksHeader()
into ResourcesHLSL::allocateShaderStorageBlockRegisters() with
the former only called for compute shaders. These initial allocations
are offset by the number of RTs at draw time.
Since Raw UAVs may now be created at draw time for non-compute
shaders, call markRawBufferUsage() from the Renderer11::draw*()
entry points as it is from dispatchCompute*().

Use bitset masks for active shader buffers.
This switches the tracking for the uniform, shader storage, and atomic
counter buffers to use bitset masks to determine where there are
active buffers. This will make iterating these buffer sets faster.
Also renames the limit for atomic counter buffers to be consistent
with the other buffer types.
Also applies the implementation limit to atomic counter buffer
bindings. This fixes out-of-bounds access on some Linux platforms that
expose a large number of bindings.

Vulkan: Shader support for EXT_shader_framebuffer_fetch_non_coherent

Micro-optimizations for setUniform*
This CL improves the setUniform* call for the case where the
niform component size is 4. In that case, we can issue a single

Program: Support multiple varying packings.
Instead of using a single varying packing for all program stages,
we switch to using a varying register packing for each pair of
input/output shaders. This allows several valid use cases that use
many varying to succeed. For instance Geometry Shaders have both
an input and output varying packing. With tessellation shaders the
upper bound of valid varying packings in one Program goes up even
more.
We keep multiple varying packings at once inside a new
"ProgramVaryingPacking" class. Internally the class keeps a unique
varying mapping for each input/output interface in the program.
Separable programs with "open" interfaces are handled specially.
Fixes a bug where varying counting was artificially limited for
programs with more than two shaders.
This CL also disables GS support when we're emulating line raster
so we don't have to figure out the details on how to place the
special position varying.

BinaryStream: Preserve 64-bit integer data.
Previously the code would truncate 64-bit data to fit in 32-bits.
This ran into a serialization bug when expanding a 64-bit mask.
The new blend state masks for extended range were out of range for
the 32-bit promotion that was happening before.
Also refactors how we capture bools and enums to be more consistent.
size_t is now correctly saved and loaded as 64-bits.

Resolve Bad Binary Link Failures
When ANGLE_PROGRAM_BINARY_LOAD is enabled, Program::loadBinary
unconditionally returns angle::Result::Continue to the caller. The
caller, gl::Program::link, postpones the resolution of the link
until resolveLinkImpl.
Unfortunately, resolveLinkImpl is not able to tell whether the link
failed because the shader from the developer is bad or because the
loaded binary is not compatible with the backend. The former case
should fail link. In the latter case, we should fallback to linking
the program from the original shader sources. The loaded binary could
be read from the on-disk shader cache and be corrupted or serialized
with different revision and subsystem id than the currently loaded
ANGLE backend.
This fix adjusts Program::loadBinary and ProgramD3D::load so that
angle::Result::Incomplete is returned to gl::Program::link when the
binary is incompatible with the backend. gl::Program:link falls back
to compilation from original shader sources.
Since no code checks the return value of SizedMRUCache::eraseByKey,
modified it to now return void.

Create the ProgramExecutable Class
The ProgramExecutable class is being created to collect data structures
that are common to both Programs and ProgramPipelines, as well as any
shared functions. This allows callers to request the current
ProgramExecutable from the State and make
Program-/ProgramPipeline-specific queries without needing to know
exactly which responded. This will also allow the necessary data
structures to only be populated and stored within the ProgramExecutable

Samplers inside (possibly nested) structs are broken apart as before,
and then if the type resulting from merging the array sizes of the field
and its containing structs is an array of array, the array is flattened.
Also adds an offset parameter to functions taking in arrays to account
for this translation.
As a result of outer array sizes leaking into function signatures,
functions taking arrays of different sizes are duplicated according to
how the function is invoked.

Standardize copyright notices to project style
For all "ANGLE Project" copyrights, standardize to the format specified
by the style guide. Changes:
- "Copyright (c)" and "Copyright(c)" changed to just "Copyright".
- Removed the second half of date ranges ("Y1Y1-Y2Y2"->"Y1Y1").
- Fixed a small number of files that had no copyright date using the
initial commit year from the version control history.
- Fixed one instance of copyright being "The ANGLE Project" rather than
"The ANGLE Project Authors"
These changes are applied both to the copyright of source file, and
where applicable to copyright statements that are generated by
templates.

Always set matrix uniform to dirty when it updates
Remove the dirty checking of matrix uniform update at frontend and
always let backend update whenever glUniformMatrix* is called. Profiled
with UniformsBenchmark/* with vulkan backend, performance increases
around 6% when data being updated is changing and performance increases
around 2% when data being updated stays same.

Optimize uniform matrix update
1. Add a fast matrix update function to do a single memcpy for uniform
matrix assignment with same layout. It benefits row-4 no-transpose GLSL
matrix and col-4 transpose HLSL matrix.
2. Make boolean IsColumnMajor to be a template parameter in generate
uniform matrix updating, which gets rid of the conditional branch
in loop and has better performance.
3. Add e2e test of uploading multiple 3x4 GLSL matrices at the same
time, which adds coverage to this CL.

Use D3D11 GetDimensions driver workaround for dynamic images
Some NVIDIA D3D11 drivers are buggy and interprets the level passed to
GetDimensions as being relative to 0, rather than the SRV's MostDetailedMip.
This affects the implementation of the imageSize function in the D3D11 backend.

D3D: Use the ProgramD3D::GetExecutableTask context for loading program binaries
ProgramD3D::GetExecutableTask is a d3d::Context type itself so that errors can
be recorded in a thread-safe maner. Use the task context when loading program
binaries in ProgramD3D.
Fix up incorrect casts in RendererD3D::loadExecutable in both D3D9 and D3D11
backends to stop incorrectly assuming the context type.

Vulkan: Fix matrix uniforms
A piece of code shared with d3d was used to implement this feature.
However, we store the uniform data transposed and row-major in d3d to
accomodate the fact that matrix indexing in HLSL is the opposite of GLSL
(mat[row][col] in HLSL as opposed to mat[col][row] in GLSL).
There were two functions that copied the source matrix fields either as
column-major or source-major (corresponding to `transpose` false or true
respectively in glUniformMatrix*) into a row-major destination. These
functions are refactored into one, which copies from any-major source to
any-major destination. The HLSL backend uses the "to row-major" variant
and the Vulkan backend uses the "to column-major" variant.
