Tim Van Patten 4e0537ce 2025-06-13T11:23:58 EGLWindow: Query the Context version after creation Move GetCurrentContextVersion() from src/tests/egl_tests/EGLBackwardsCompatibleContextTest.cpp to util/util_gl.h, so it can be used by both the test and EGLWindow. Without EGL_ANGLE_create_context_backwards_compatible and specifying EGL_CONTEXT_OPENGL_BACKWARDS_COMPATIBLE_ANGLE = EGL_FALSE, ANGLE will create a context with the maximum conformant version the display supports. If the extension is not supported, we need to query the actual context version, so each test can behave accordingly. EGL 1.5 Spec 3.7.1.1 OpenGL and OpenGL ES Context Versions The context returned must be the specified version, or a later version which is backwards compatible with that version. It is expected that EGL_ANGLE_create_context_backwards_compatible is *not* supported when testing the system EGL. This change also adds a log message when the requested context version does not match the actual version. Tim Van Patten e738f5bc 2025-06-30T16:54:25 EGLWindow: Fix eglGetError in initializeSurface() From the EGL 1.5 spec: # Chapter 3 EGL Functions and Errors ## 3.1 Errors Additional information about the success or failure of the most recent EGL function called in a specific thread[1], in the form of an error code, can be obtained by calling EGLint eglGetError(void); [1] Note that calling eglGetError twice without any other intervening EGL calls will always return EGL_SUCCESS on the second call, since eglGetError is itself an EGL function, and the second call is reporting the success or failure of the first call. In other words, error checking must always be performed immediately after an EGL function fails. EGLWindow::initializeSurface() is checking the status of eglCreateWindowSurface() with eglGetError() and then calling eglGetError() again in the error log message. This results in the error message always containing 0x3000 (EGL_SUCCESS), as the spec states. Fix this by capturing the value of eglGetError() and then using the captured value in both the conditional and the log statement. Tim Van Patten 0d441eda 2025-05-29T12:04:46 util: Give all ConfigParameters default values ConfigParameters has a mix of 'bool' and 'Optional<bool>', with some tests setting the Optional<> values to the default value, inadvertently creating a dependency on the associated extension. To reduce the dependency on various extensions and allow more tests to run, update ConfigParameters to only contain raw bools and initialize them to the default values defined by the associated spec. This allows EGLWindow to only require the necessary extension when a non-default value is set by a test. This also requires updates to a handful of tests which were relying on the state of extensions due to non-default values. Shahbaz Youssefi 7d31a47f 2022-04-23T00:19:15 Vulkan: Optimize away eglSwapBuffers for single buffer surfaces For single buffer surfaces, eglSwapBuffers serves two purposes: - Switch to/from single buffer mode - Implicitly issue a glFlush Simultaneously, for single buffer surfaces, glFlush serves three purposes: - Submit the commands - Call queue present (if necessary) - Throttle the CPU In this mode, ContextVk::flush() already redirects to the surface, calling WindowSurfaceVk::swapImpl() which calls back to ContextVk::flushImpl() (to submit the commands), calls queue present and throttles the CPU. If the application calls eglSwapBuffers(), the exact same thing happens (i.e. WindowSurfaceVk::swapImpl() is called to the same effect). Calling swapImpl() leads to an addition of the corresponding submit serial to the "swap history". The CPU throttling code always throttles the CPU to the serial of two swaps ago. Unnecessary calls to eglSwapBuffers() (when there is no command to be flushed) in single buffer mode would thus lead to the CPU throttled to the end of the last submission, effectively turning into a glFinish(). In this change, eglSwapBuffers() in single buffer mode, when not switching to/from this mode, is redirected to glFlush() as it's functionally equivalent. Simultaneously, ContextVk now tracks whether it has any pending commands for submission at all, and skips glFlush() altogether if there are none. Together, this results in the unnecessary eglSwapBuffers() to become no-op. This has two benefits: - Adding tests that override a feature no longer requires additional helper functions to be written. - There's no mistaking the feature name. This change doesn't yet fix the main issue in anglebug.com/6435, but does fix the following helpers using an old feature name (so they were ineffective): - WithMetalForcedBufferGPUStorage - WithNoVulkanViewportFlip A follow up would remove the old way of overriding features in tests and replaces them with the new way. This CL allows our tests to sanitizes memory for the robust resource access extension. It is quite slow so should not be enabled by default. Only works for 1 level 2D color textures and buffers. Makes several flaky robust resource initialization tests consistently fail. Controlled via an angle::Feature in FeaturesVk. It works by initializing memory to an abitrary non-zero value: - if newly allocated memory is mappable, we map it in init and set it - if a buffer or texture can be a transfer destination, we use a staging resource - otherwise we don't attempt to initialize the resource. Jamie Madill 1fce3283 2017-10-09T16:12:03 Samples: Add command line flag to select renderer. This gives us the ability to test Vulkan without a special recompile, and keeps the default setting to the default ANGLE renderer. Only implemented for the hello_triangle sample currently. Also includes an extra error message for missing EGL config, which is where the Vulkan init fails right now, due to missing depth/stencil support. Also includes a hack to get Vulkan samples running without depth/ stencil. Jamie Madill 222c517f 2017-07-19T16:15:42 Control Debug layers in ANGLE_platform_angle. Debug layers seem to be a universal thing among functional back-ends. D3D, OpenGL and Vulkan all need some kind of controls for debugging, so it seems to make sense to make this control part of the base extension. Default the extension to EGL_DONT_CARE, which allows the back-end to have a lot of flexibility in terms of implementation. Also enable the extension in the D3D11 and OpenGL back-ends, and set the extension to enabled for angle_end2end_tests. Remove EGLVulkanEXTTest since it no longer tests anything not tested in the base ANGLETest class. Jamie Madill fe54834f 2017-06-19T11:13:24 Proliferate gl::Context. This enables a few small things: it will enable making the platform a property of the Display rather than a global. The same goes for the global logging annotator. Also it ensures all back-end implementations have access to the GL / EGL state when available. Also introduces a smart pointer helper class to angleutils for objects that prefer to be destroyed with a context (gl::Context/egl::Display) parameter. We were using std::unique_ptr in a few places that would not work well with these objects. Jamie Madill 98de826c 2017-05-29T13:01:02 Platform: Fix initialization order in tests. Because of the platform refactor in abf38572062b91 we broke the way the tests override the D3D workarounds for the tiny depth/stencil bug. This change passes a pointer to the platform directly in the EGL init logic, which solves this issue. It also removes all decltype code in the platform header which might fix the UBSAN problem we were seeing previously. Also change a present mode selection error into a warning in the Vk back-end, since this was being triggered on AMD, but is safe.
