Geoff Lang b9567391 2025-03-20T14:10:21 Prefer Device type requests over adapter LUID in D3D11. When the user requests both a non-hardware device type and a specific DXGI adapter LUID, prefer to honor the device type request. Chrome always requests LUIDs of the first available GPU to make sure that it prefers integrated GPUs over discreet. It only requests non-hardware device types when software rendering is desired. This behaviour change satisfies Chrome's intentions in both cases. Roman Lavrov cfb430c8 2025-02-10T13:19:05 Remove angle::ErrorStream helper Most uses of the helper either use just the code or a fixed string, which compiles to a few instructions. Using this helper adds 200+ bytes of assembly to each use, due to the unneeded instantiation of ostringstream which allocates a buffer etc. The combined effect of this CL on an Android perf build is ~12KB (0.2%) reduction in size. The cases where the message is actually formatted are converted to an explicit use of ostringstream. Removing the helper so that the new code is explicit about the intent to use ostringstream, or an alternative way to format the message. Discovered accidentally while looking into size reduction due to __builtin_unreachable() Semi-automated code change, risk of copy-paste mistakes should be minimal. Shahbaz Youssefi 0c4d6446 2024-01-24T10:38:45 Rework uniform block <-> uniform buffer mapping In GLES, the shader declares which buffer binding a block (uniform, storage or atomic counter) is bound to. For example: layout(binding = 1) uniform ubo0 { ... }; layout(binding = 2) uniform ubo1 { ... }; layout(binding = 1) uniform ubo2 { ... }; In the above, ubo0 and ubo2 use data from the buffer bound to index 2 (through glBindBufferRange), while ubo1 uses data from the buffer bound to index 1. For uniform blocks in particular, omitting the binding is allowed, in which case it is implicitly bound to buffer 0. GLES allows uniform blocks (and only uniform blocks) to remap their bindings through calls to glUniformBlockBinding. This means that the mapping of uniform blocks in the program (ubo0, ubo1, ubo2) to the buffer bindings is not constant. For storage blocks and atomic counter buffers, this binding _is_ constant and is determined at link time. At link time, the mapping of blocks to buffers is determined based on values specified in the shaders. This info is stored was stored in gl::InterfaceBlock::binding (for UBOs and SSBOs), and gl::AtomicCounterBuffer::binding. For clarity, this change renames these members to ...::inShaderBinding. When glUniformBlockBinding is called, the mapping is updated. Prior to this change, gl::InterfaceBlock::binding was directly updated, trumping the mapping determined at link time. A bug here was that after a call to glProgramBinary, GL expects the mappings to reset to their original link-time values, but instead ANGLE restored the mappings to what was configured at the time the binary was retrieved. This change tracks the uniform block -> buffer binding mapping separately from the link results so that the original values can be restored during glProgramBinary. In the process, the support data structures for tracking this mapping are moved to ProgramExecutable and the algorithms are simplified. Program Pipeline Objects maintain this mapping identically to Programs and no longer require a special and more costly path when a buffer state changes. This change prepares for but does not yet fix the more fundamental bug that the dirty bits are tracked in the program executable instead of the context state, which makes changes not propagate to all contexts correctly. Charlie Lao 9ca025d2 2023-09-18T15:50:48 Flatten BufferVariable/ShaderVariableBuffer/InterfaceBlock struct InterfaceBlock inherits from ShaderVariableBuffer, ShaderVariableBuffer is not a trivially copyable struct, this made InterfaceBlock not trivially copyable. InterfaceBlock is being used by some app traces for uniform blocks. BufferVariable inherits from sh::ShaderVariable which is very complicated and not trivially copyable. This CL flattens all of these three structs to simple structs without inheritance, and wraps all trivially copyable data into one POD struct, thus load/save are cheaper. Steven Noonan f395f34b 2023-08-03T13:58:43 features: frontload feature overrides This allows us to have features that depend on the state of other features more reliably. For example, let's say you have two features: ANGLE_FEATURE_CONDITION(&mFeatures, allowX, (benefitsFromX || isSpecificHardware) && !isBadHardware); ANGLE_FEATURE_CONDITION(&mFeatures, supportsX, hardware.featureXSupported && mFeatures.allowX.enabled); Before this change, if you overrode allowX, the override would be applied too late for the supportsX test. This also helps with disabling dependent features via overrides. For example, if you disable "supportsRenderpass2", it will also disable features depending on it, such as "supportsDepthStencilResolve" and "supportsFragmentShadingRate". By frontloading the feature overrides, we can have cross-dependencies between "feature supported on this platform" and "allow this feature by policy". Stephen White 3f59c285 2022-07-12T17:29:36 D3D11: implement image load/store format reinterpretation. Reinterpretation requires all UAV textures to be in a TYPELESS format. Implement an ensureUnorderedAccess() that converts the texture's storage to one with the D3D11_BIND_UNORDERED_ACCESS flag, which, prior to this change, was set unconditionally for all textures in an >= ES 3.1 context. If this flag is set at D3D texture creation time, use the appropriate TYPELESS format. Implementation uses a BindFlags struct, which subsumes the existing renderTarget for clarity. Factor out the relevant bits of ensureRenderTarget() into an ensureBindFlags() helper function, and make ensureRenderTarget() and ensureUnorderedAccess() wrappers around it. Add the corresponding typeless formats to the texture format table. Shahbaz Youssefi fcec6904 2022-04-13T14:18:06 Generate feature variable names from display names The json file now only contains the feature display name. The variable name is automaticaly derived. For consistence with Chromium and other Chromium-based projects, the display name is now always snake_case, and that's what's specified in the json files. This also makes camelCase variable name generation trivial (as opposed to the other way around). Feature overrides now accept both snake_case and camelCase names to ensure compatibility with existing scripts. This is done by removing _ and comparing override names with feature names in lower case. Stephen White 6803a2d0 2022-04-01T16:52:49 D3D11: implement SSBOs in pixel and vertex shaders. Since the 'u' register space for UAVs in pixel shaders is shared with render targets, and the number of render targets may vary depending on GL state, this required deferring register allocation until draw-time output in DynamicHLSL. Since non-compute shaders aren't able to immediately output the SSBO declaration, initial register allocation was broken out from ResourcesHLSL::shaderStorageBlocksHeader() into ResourcesHLSL::allocateShaderStorageBlockRegisters() with the former only called for compute shaders. These initial allocations are offset by the number of RTs at draw time. Since Raw UAVs may now be created at draw time for non-compute shaders, call markRawBufferUsage() from the Renderer11::draw*() entry points as it is from dispatchCompute*(). The test runner doesn't change state between testing different back-ends. This works-around the problem by setting the global variable when the context is switched. Because the GL back-end doesn't have its own DebugAnnotator sub-class, add a Display* to DisplayImpl::makeCurrent(), so that DisplayGL::makeCurrent() can install the front-end-Display's DebugAnnotator. Ian Elliott e44c94d9 2020-10-01T19:30:03 Work-around test runner & DebugAnnotator Note: This precedes another CL that needs this change. DebugAnnotator uses a global variable. Note: the Vulkan back-end gets this fix even though the new DebugAnnotatorVk class will be added in a follow-on CL. Austin Kinross 11dc1635 2019-09-18T14:46:23 Add support for generating UWP (Windows Store) projects again Until late 2017, ANGLE supported Windows Store apps on Windows 8.1, Windows Phone 8.1, and Windows 10 (via the Universal Windows Platform, aka UWP). Unfortunately ANGLE deprecated support for Windows Store when it switched from GYP to GN in 2017. Since then, users have been able to use Microsoft\angle for their UWP apps but this isn't ideal since it's based on a 2017 copy of Google\angle. This PR bring back support for UWPs, so that UWP users can use Google\angle again. Specifically it: - Adds support for generating UWP projects via GN - Adds helper/util functions specific to UWP (they're mostly similar to the desktop Windows helpers) - Fixes some existing Windows Store code that's rotted since 2017 - Disables async shader compilation for UWPs, since its implementation calls wait on the UI thread (which is forbidden in UWPs) - Renames 'ANGLE_ENABLE_WINDOWS_STORE' to 'ANGLE_ENABLE_WINDOWS_UWP', since ANGLE only support UWPs now - Fixes misc other related issues (such as dependencies on D3D9 headers in API-agnostic code) Note that this doesn't bring back support for Windows/Phone 8.1. Previous fix to guard annotator accesses by a mutex reduced flakiness, but not completely, maybe due to a D3D erroneously thinking there is multithreaded access while there is none.
