Generating disassembled SPIR-V is not ideal as it incurs a large binary size. The online SPIR-V tool found at https://www.khronos.org/spir/visualizer/ is capable of disassembling SPIR-V from hex values. ANGLE now implements this extension by outputting the SPIR-V in hex values and relying on this tool. Shahbaz Youssefi e7ce481f 2023-11-01T22:44:22 Consolidate parallel compilation in front-end This cleans up the multiple compilation task implementations in the backends and consolidates them in the front-end. The front-end is then able to do the compilation in an unlocked tail call instead if desired (in a future change). This change is in preparation for having the program link tasks directly wait on the shader compilation tasks. As a result, the "shader resolve" should not be needed to access the shader compilation results; it should be enough to wait for the compilation job. This change therefore moves post-processing of results to the compilation job itself as they did not need to actually be done after compilation is done (merely after translation is done). As a side effect, shader substition and other debug features should now work for the GL backend as they are now done before back-end compilation. Shahbaz Youssefi f3c1de36 2023-08-17T15:29:24 Make shader recompile while parallel linking safe Prior to this change, Program* objects held references to Shader* objects. This poses a problem where a shader recompile can race with a program link, if the program link is done in parallel. As a result, a good chunk of the link job is done serially and under the share group lock. After this change, that is no longer a problem, and most of the link can be made lockless/parallelized. This change separates out the "compiled state" from the rest of the shader state. This was already done for the front-end state (for the sake of caching), but is also now done for the backends that need it. The compiled state in turn is placed in a shared_ptr, and is shared with the program. When a shader is compiled, its own shared_ptr is replaced with a new object, leaving all programs currently compiling unaffected and using the previous compilation results. Once a program is linked, its references to compiled shader states is updated. Yuxin Hu 6deca89e 2023-03-22T22:33:40 Add Spirv Instruction to explicitly cast mediump float to 16 bit If the GLSL shader code expects the comparison between two mediump float values returning true, but the SpirV compiler treats one of them as 32-bit, and treats the other one as 16-bit, the comparison would return false instead. The SpirV compiler may not automatically cast the mediump float values to 16 bits, because it may utilize the RelaxedPrecision decoration to keep a mediump float as 32-bit, so that the compiler can avoid the type cast from 32-bit highp to 16-bit mediump. This change adds an additional OpQuantizeToF16 SpirV instruction to explicitly cast mediump float scalar or mediump float vector to 16 bit, if they are assigned with a highp float value. This ensures that if the GLSL shader code ever compares two meiump float values, the SpirV shader compiler is not accidentally comparing a 16 bit with a 32 bit float value. This fixe the deqp test failure on Pixel 6 and Pixel 7: dEQP-GLES2.functional.shaders.algorithm.rgb_to_hsl_vertex. However, in SpirV, aliased memory qualifier has to be explicitly specified: https://registry.khronos.org/SPIR-V/specs/unified1/SPIRV.html#AliasingSection This change adds the aliased memory decorations to SSBO if the GLSL does not specify the restrict memory qualifier. This is a temporary workaround to fix the deqp test failures on some android devices. Chris Dalton a7dc51f2 2022-10-01T08:49:11 Add a framebuffer fetch implementation of PLS The framebuffer fetch implementation works by attaching PLS backing textures to the framebuffer, and then rewriting PLS uniforms as "inout" fragment variables. The compiler's existing machinery takes it from there and makes it work on GL and Vulkan, and soon Metal. EXT_shader_framebuffer_fetch is now the preferred backend for pixel local storage, but we also use EXT_shader_framebuffer_fetch_non_coherent if shader images can't be coherent. This is especially interesting for Vulkan, since noncoherent framebuffer fetch is possible without any extensions. This fixes the situation when the programs are created after a robust context has been created. However, if programs are created first, then a robust context is added to a share group, there remains a bug where the old programs aren't recreated to have robust behavior. Shahbaz Youssefi 6f80f0f0 2022-08-06T02:29:19 Translator: Clean up the compile flag passing interface Historically, compile flags were sent to the translator as a bitmask. Recently, we were getting close to running out of bits. Additionally, direct-to-metal work had started to introduce constants to be passed to the translator, which were misplaced in ShBuiltInResources and Caps. Recent work on Pixel Local Storage adds even more constants, aggravating the situation. In this change, the interface to passing compile flags is reworked. A struct is passed (instead of a bitmask) that has one bit for each flag. This can be indefinitely extended. Additionally, the constants needed by metal and PLS are also placed in this struct. In turn, the backends can set these options directly, and don't have to hack them into Caps to further get hacked into ShBuiltInResources. The complete 8 possible states of rotation and y-flip are achieved by using this swap in combination with a driver uniform for x and y flip. Swapping is still a specialization constant to avoid degrading performance of dFdx/dFdy which otherwise would need both to be evaluated instead of one. On platforms which don't support pre-rotation, the specialization constant will never change and driver uniforms entirely govern y-flip. On platforms that do support pre-rotation, only two variations of the pipeline are needed. With ditering emulation affecting values, some dEQP tests fail due to the excessive change in value when dithering bumps the value slightly over to the next quantum. In this change, a workaround is added to round() the value before outputting it. Based on the listed advanced blend equations, emulation code is added that performs those equations' functions. The blend equation itself is passed through a driver uniform. Note that the advanced blend extension only allows a single output to use advanced blend, and that should be at location 0. In the Vulkan backend, when advanced blend is used, the driver uniform to select the equation is updated and normal blending is disabled. For example in: bool f(inout vec4 a, inout vec4 b) { a = vec4(0); return all(equal(a, b)); } var = vec4(1); bool result = f(var, var); result is expected to be false. In SPIR-V, every parameter is semantically passed by "reference". glslang conservatively uses temporaries to pass to functions. An optimization in ANGLE didn't create temporaries for unindexed lvalues, which did not take into account the above fact. This optimization is limited to out parameters now. With emulated prerotation, the window dimensions are physically swapped if 90 and 270 degrees, while the width and height is still reported as requested by the test. In the Vulkan backend, the width and height are swapped after getting queried from the surface, and prerotation is assumed. With this initial implementation, it's possible to get precision qualifier mis-matches in the generated GLSL 4.50. According to the spec this is allowed. From GLSLangSpec 4.50 section 4.7 "Precision and Precision Qualifiers": For the purposes of determining if an output from one shader stage matches an input of the next stage, the precision qualifier need not match. However, when converted to SPIR-V and run through the shader validation any mismatches will cause shader validation errors. Initially just ignoring those errors with this commit. This allows us to support dynamically-uniform array indexing, which is core in ES 3.2. Samplers inside (possibly nested) structs are broken apart as before, and then if the type resulting from merging the array sizes of the field and its containing structs is an array of array, the array is flattened. Also adds an offset parameter to functions taking in arrays to account for this translation. As a result of outer array sizes leaking into function signatures, functions taking arrays of different sizes are duplicated according to how the function is invoked. Shahbaz Youssefi 93560ef5 2019-07-25T16:13:02 Vulkan: Seamful cube map emulation In GLSL, a cube texture is sampled with one of textureCube* functions. This function takes a 3D coordinate which is a vector from the center of the cube and identifies a direction to sample from. GLES2.0 has the following table that translates this 3D coordinate (Rx, Ry, Rz) to a face and ST coordinates within that face. This table can be found in Section 3.7.5 (Cube Map Texture Selection). A compiler pass is implemented in ANGLE that replaces samplerCube declarations with a sampler2DArray. The textureCube* functions are replaced with the corresponding texture* functions with the translated coordinates according to that table. Gradients provided to textureCubeGrad are translated using the same formulae, which is not precise but the spec specifies this projection to be implementation dependent. Helper invocations enabled through WQM (whole quad mode) cause a nuisance in that the extrapolated varyings used as coordinates in a textureCube call could have a different major axis (and therefore face) from the non-helper invocations that lie within the geometry. subgroupQuadSwap* operations are used in conjunction with gl_HelperInvocation to make sure the helper threads calculate texture UVs in the same face as the non-helper invocations. For example, if a shader has: layout(location=0) out color; layout(location=3) out roughness; Then GLES would bind and enable GL_COLOR_ATTACHMENT0 and GL_COLOR_ATTACHMENT3. In Vulkan, the framebuffer object and the corresponding renderpass define the color attachments, and they don't allow gaps in color attachments as GLES does. A render subpass creates the mapping between the color attachments as defined in the framebuffer and the attachments used by the shader (with possible gaps). This change packs the enabled GL color attachments for the sake of the framebuffer, and sets the subpass up in such a way that the shaders continue to use the same color output indices as GLES. Olli contributed this workaround for the GL back-end some time ago. This CL enables it for Vulkan as well on the affected drivers. By removing it, these methods can be decoupled from Context. This hooks up the Vulkan GLSL, decorated with locations, to glslang, and then pipes the SPIRV back to the Program implementation for later use when making pipelines to run draw calls. The program compilation tests work now, but don't really test anything other than not generating Vulkan validation layer errors during compilation and shader object generation.
