Alexei Podtelezhnikov d71f2bc1 2018-10-26T22:52:25 Revert "Align FreeType with standard C memory management." This reverts commit 877aa1b2cc662978aae61ed4d5c6ea8ba56b2fe7.
Alexei Podtelezhnikov 877aa1b2 2018-09-27T21:17:36 Align FreeType with standard C memory management. * include/freetype/ftsystem.h: Include FT_TYPES_H. (*FT_Alloc_Func, *FT_Realloc_Func): Use size_t for the size arguments. * src/raster/ftmisc.h: Ditto. * builds/amiga/src/base/ftsystem.c, builds/unix/ftsystem.c, * builds/vms/ftsystem.c, src/base/ftsystem.c (ft_alloc, ft_realloc): Use size_t for the size arguments. * src/base/ftdbgmem.c (ft_mem_debug_alloc, ft_mem_debug_realloc): Use FT_Offset, aka size_t, for the size arguments.
Werner Lemberg 9ac9060d 2018-06-03T09:01:17 [GSoC] src/*.*: Convert block comments to `light' style. This monster commit was created by applying Nikhil's scripts `docconverter.py' and `markify.py' to all C header and source files, followed up by minor manual clean-up. No change in functionality, of course. I used commit f7419907bc6044b9b7057f9789866426c804ba82 from https://github.com/nikramakrishnan/freetype-docs.git.

Werner Lemberg 48186b81 2015-02-16T06:37:36 [base] Clean up signedness issues in `ftdbgmem.c'. Also fix other minor issues. * src/base/ftdbgmem.c (FT_MemTableRec): Replace all FT_ULong types with FT_Long for consistency. (ft_mem_primes): Change type to `FT_Int'. (ft_mem_closest_prime, ft_mem_table_set): Updated. (ft_mem_debug_panic, ft_mem_debug_alloc, ft_mem_debug_free, ft_mem_debug_realloc): Use `static' keyword and fix signedness warnings where necessary. (ft_mem_table_resize, ft_mem_table_new, ft_mem_table_destroy, ft_mem_table_get_nodep, ft_mem_debug_init, FT_DumpMemory): Fix types and add or remove casts to avoid signedness warnings.
Werner Lemberg f57fc59e 2015-01-17T20:41:43 Run `src/tools/update-copyright'.
Werner Lemberg dc624ca4 2013-06-04T10:30:48 Apply fixes for cppcheck nitpicks. http://cppcheck.sourceforge.net/ Note that the current version heavily chokes on FreeType, delivering even wrong results. I will report those issues to the cppcheck team so that a newer version gives improved results hopefully. */* Improve variable scopes. */* Remove redundant initializations which get overwritten. * src/base/ftmac.c ,builds/mac/ftmac.c (count_faces_scalable): Remove unused variable. * src/base/ftdbgmem.c (ft_mem_table_destroy): `table' can't be zero. * src/gxvalid/gxvkern.c (gxv_kern_subtable_fmt1_entry_validate): Remove functionless code. * src/tools/ftrandom.c (main): Fix memory leak.
suzuki toshiya b8b498f2 2010-10-25T00:35:59 Change the type of FT_MEM_VAL() from FT_ULong to FT_PtrDist. On LLP64 platforms (e.g. Win64), unsigned long (32-bit) cannot cover the memory address (64-bit). FT_MEM_VAL() is used for hashing only and not dereferred, so using signed type FT_PtrDist is safe. * src/base/ftdbgmem.c (FT_MEM_VAL): Change the type of the return value from FT_ULong to FT_PtrDist. (ft_mem_table_resize): The type of hash is changed to FT_PtrDist. (ft_mem_table_get_nodep): Ditto.
Werner Lemberg f4fe5a4a 2009-12-20T17:56:22 Fix compiler warning. Reported by Sean. * src/base/ftdbgmem.c [!FT_DEBUG_MEMORY]: ANSI C doesn't like empty source files; however, some compilers warn about an unused variable declaration. This is now replaced with a typedef.
Werner Lemberg 858abbed 2009-06-26T06:15:41 For warning messages, replace FT_ERROR with FT_TRACE0. FT_ERROR is now used only if a function produces a non-zero `error' value. Formatting, improving and harmonizing debug strings.
Werner Lemberg 24d72a1b 2009-01-13T17:34:48 Don't use stdlib.h and friends directly. Reported by Mickey Gabel <mickey@monfort.co.il>. * src/base/ftdbgmem.c: s/<stdlib.h>/FT_CONFIG_STANDARD_LIBRARY_H/. * src/gzip/ftgzip.c, src/lzw/ftlzw.c, src/raster/ftmisc.h: s/<string.h>/FT_CONFIG_STANDARD_LIBRARY_H/. * src/autofit/aftypes.h, src/autofit/afhints.c, src/pshinter/pshalgo.c: s/<stdio.h>/FT_CONFIG_STANDARD_LIBRARY_H/ * src/lzw/ftlzw.c, src/base/ftdbgmem.c: Don't include stdio.h.
Werner Lemberg f2e33c11 2009-01-06T06:59:36 Minor fixes. * src/base/ftdbgmem.c (_debug_mem_dummy): Make it static. * src/base/ftmac.c: Remove some #undefs.
Jens Claudius a787f455 2006-08-27T11:26:18 2006-08-27 Jens Claudius <jens.claudius@yahoo.com> Fix miscellaneous compiler warnings. * freetype2/include/freetype/internal/ftobjs.h: close comment with `*/' to avoid `/* in comment' compiler warning. * freetype2/src/base/ftdbgmem.c (ft_mem_table_get_source): Turn cast `(FT_UInt32)(void*)' into `(FT_UInt32)(FT_PtrDist)(void*)' since on 64-bit platforms void* is larger than FT_UInt32. * freetype2/src/base/ftobjs.c (t_validator_error): cast away volatileness of argument to ft_longjmp. Spotted by Werner `Putzfrau' Lemberg. * freetype2/src/bdf/bdflib.c (bdf_load_font): initialize local variable `lineno'. * freetype2/src/gxvalid/gxvmod.c (classic_kern_validate): mark local variable `error' volatile.
Werner Lemberg c6afa122 2006-05-02T22:22:16 * include/freetype/internal/ftmemory.h: s/new/newsz/ (for C++). (FT_ALLOC): Remove redundant redefinition. * builds/compiler/gcc-dev.mk (CFLAGS) [g++]: Don't use `-Wstrict-prototypes'. * src/base/ftstream.c (FT_Stream_EnterFrame): Add cast. Formatting, copyright years.
David Turner 264f307e 2006-05-02T06:34:27 * include/freetype/fterrdef.h, include/freetype/config/ftconfig.h, include/freetype/internal/ftmemory.h, src/base/ftdbgmem.c, src/base/ftutil.c: udpating the memory management functions and macros to safely deal with array size buffer overflows, this corresponds to attemps to allocate arrays that are too large. For an example, consider the following code: count = read_uint32_from_file(); array = malloc( sizeof(Item) * count ); for ( nn = 0; nn < count; nn++ ) array[nn] = read_item_from_file(); if 'count' is larger than FT_UINT_MAX/sizeof(Item), the multiplication will overflow and the array allocated will be smaller than the data read from the file. In this case, the heap will be trashed, and this can be used as a denial-of-service, or make the engine crash later. the FT_ARRAY_NEW and FT_ARRAY_RENEW macro now check that the new count is no more than FT_INT_MAX/item_size, otherwise, a new error, named 'FT_Err_Array_Too_Large' will be returned. note that the memory debugger now works again when FT_DEBUG_MEMORY is defined, and FT_STRICT_ALIASING has disappeared, the corresponding code being now the default.

Note that the cache sub-system cannot be fully retrofitted, unfortunately.
Werner Lemberg 59939244 2006-01-31T20:17:42 Implement new, simplified module selection. With GNU make it is now sufficient to modify a single file, `modules.cfg', to control the inclusion of modules and base extension files. This change also fixes the creation of ftmodule.h; it now depends on `modules.cfg' and thus is rebuilt only if necessary. Finally, a version of `ftoption.h' in OBJ_DIR is preferred over the default location. * modules.cfg: New file. * builds/freetype.mk: Don't include `modules.mk'. Include all `rules.mk' files as specified in `modules.cfg'. (FTOPTION_FLAG, FTOPTION_H): New variables. (FT_CFLAGS): Add macro definition for FT_CONFIG_MODULES_H. Add FTOPTION_FLAG. ($(FT_INIT_OBJ)): Don't use FT_MODULE_LIST. (CONFIG_H): Add FTMODULE_H and FTOPTION_H. (INCLUDES): Add DEVEL_DIR. (INCLUDE_FLAGS, FTSYS_SRC, FTSYS_OBJ, FTDEBUG_SRC, FTDEBUG_OBJ, OBJ_M, OBJ_S): Use `:=', not `='. (remove_ftmodule_h): New phony target to delete `ftmodule.h'. (distclean): Add remove_ftmodule_h. * builds/modules.mk: (MODULE_LIST): Removed. (make_module_list, clean_module_list): Replace targets with... (FTMODULE_H_INIT, FTMODULE_H_CREATE, FTMODULE_H_DONE): New variables. Reason for the change is that it is not possible to have a phony prerequisite which is run only if the target file must be rebuilt (phony prerequisites act like subroutines and are *always* executed). We only want to rebuild `ftmodule.h' if `module.cfg' is changed. Update all callers. ($FTMODULE_H)): Rule to create `ftmodule.h', depending on `modules.cfg'. * builds/toplevel.mk: Rewrite and simplify module handling. (MODULES_CFG, FTMODULE_H): New variables. Include MODULES_CFG. (MODULES): New variable to include all `module.mk' and `rules.mk' files. We no longer use make's `wildcard' function for this. * Makefile (USE_MODULES): Remove. Update all users. (OBJ_DIR): Define it here. * src/*/module.mk: Change make_module_list: foo foo: ... to FTMODULE_H_COMMANDS += FOO define FOO ... endef in all files. `FTMODULE_H_COMMANDS' is used in `FTMODULE_H_CREATE'. * src/base/rules.mk (BASE_EXT_SRC): Use BASE_EXTENSIONS. * builds/unix/detect.mk (setup): Always execute `configure' script. (have_mk): Rename to... (have_Makefile): This. Don't use `strip' function. * builds/unix/unix.mk: Include `install.mk' only if BUILD_PROJECT is defined. (have_mk): Don't use `strip' function. Test for unix-def.mk in OBJ_DIR, not BUILD_DIR (and invert the test accordingly). * builds/unix/install.mk (install, uninstall): Handle `ftmodule.h'. * builds/os2/os2-dev.mk, builds/unix/unix-dev.mk, builds/win32/w32-bccd.mk, builds/win32/w32-dev.mk: Don't define BUILD_DIR but DEVEL_DIR for development header files. * builds/ansi/ansi-def.mk (TOP_DIR, OBJ_DIR), builds/beos/beos-def.mk (TOP_DIR, OBJ_DIR), builds/unix/unix-def.in (TOP_DIR, OBJ_DIR): Removed. Defined elsewhere. * builds/dos/dos-def.mk (OBJ_DIR), builds/os2/os2-def.mk (OBJ_DIR), builds/win32/win32-def.mk (OBJ_DIR): Removed. Defined elsewhere. * builds/unix/unixddef.mk: Don't define BUILD_DIR but DEVEL_DIR for development header files. Don't define PLATFORM. * configure: Copy `modules.cfg' to builddir if builddir != srcdir. Update snippet taken from autoconf's m4sh.m4 to current CVS version. Be more verbose. * include/freetype/config/ftmodule.h: Add comments -- this file is no longer used if FreeType is built with GNU make. * docs/CHANGES, docs/CUSTOMIZE, docs/INSTALL, docs/INSTALL.ANY, docs/INSTALL.GNU, docs/INSTALL.UNX: Document new build mechanism. Other minor updates. * modules.txt: Removed. Contents included in `modules.cfg'. * include/freetype/internal/ftmemory.h (FT_QAlloc_Debug, FT_Free_Debug) [FT_STRICT_ALIASING]: Fix typos. * src/base/ftdbgmem.c (FT_Alloc_Debug, FT_Realloc_Debug, FT_QAlloc_Debug, FT_QRealloc_Debug, FT_Free_Debug) [FT_STRICT_ALIASING]: Implement.

David Turner 6a487b59 2005-02-28T22:09:07 * src/base/ftdbgmem.c (FT_DumpMemory): added sorting of memory sources according to decreasing maximum cumulative allocations. * include/freetype/internal/tttypes.h, src/sfnt/ttsbit.c, src/sfnt/ttsbit0.c, src/truetype/ttobjs.c, src/cff/cffobjs.c, src/sfnt/sfobjs.c: implementing new heap-optimized embedded bitmap loader. This one also fixes bug #12107 * src/sfnt/sfobjs.c: fixed bug that prevented loading SFNT fonts without a 'kern' table.
David Turner e5680279 2005-02-26T00:12:04 * many, many files: several memory optimizations were implemented to drastically reduce the heap usage of FreeType, especially in the case of memory-mapped files. The idea is to avoid loading and decoding tables in the heap, and instead access the raw data whenever possible (i.e. when it doesn't compromise performance). This had several impacts: first, opening vera.ttf uses a ridiculous amount of memory (when the FT_Library footprint is accounted for), until you start loading glyphs. Even then, you'll save at least 20 Kb compared to the non optimized case. performance of various operations, including open/close has also been dramatically improved. More optimisations to come. The auto-hinter eats memory like crazy? This must be stopped...
David Turner 3e26d07e 2005-02-22T15:38:12 * src/base/ftdbgmem.c: adding the ability to list all allocation sites in the memory debugger. Also a new function FT_DumpMemory() was added. It is only available in builds with FT_DEBUG_MEMORY defined, and you must declare it in your own code to use it, i.e. with something like: extern void FT_DumpMemory( FT_Memory ); ... FT_DumpMemory( memory ); * include/freetype/config/ftoptions.h: disabling TrueType bytecode interpreter ! * include/freetype/internal/ftmemory.h: adding FT_ARRAY_ZERO, as a convenience macro.
Werner Lemberg 21ddf945 2004-06-24T06:56:06 * include/freetype/internal/ftmemory.h [FT_DEBUG_MEMORY]: Declare FT_QAlloc_Debug and FT_QRealloc_Debug. * src/base/ftutil.c (FT_QAlloc): Fix error and debug messages. (FT_QRealloc): Call FT_QAlloc if original pointer is NULL. Fix error message.

Examples: MEM_Set => FT_MEM_SET MEM_Copy => FT_MEM_COPY MEM_Move => FT_MEM_MOVE ALLOC => FT_ALLOC FREE => FT_FREE REALLOC = >FT_REALLOC FT_NEW was introduced to allocate a new object from a _typed_ pointer.. note that ALLOC_ARRAY and REALLOC_ARRAY have been replaced by FT_NEW_ARRAY and FT_RENEW_ARRAY which take _typed_ pointer arguments. As an example, the code for the image and sbit caches is now much simpler I still need to update the documentation in www/freetype2/docs/cache.html to reflect the new design though..
