evwatch: Add "prepare" and "check" watchers.
Adds two new callbacks: "prepare" watchers, which fire immediately
before we poll for I/O, and "check" watchers, which fire immediately
after we finish polling and before we process events. This allows other
event loops to be embedded into libevent's, and enables certain
performance monitoring.

Always define missing TAILQ functions from sys/queue.h
On both Android and Ubuntu machines, TAILQ_END is not defined. This
header also does not seem to be part of standard BSD sys/queue.h
Fix this by always defining missing TAILQ_ macros rather than
conditioning on a particular macro.

Restore our priority-inversion-prevention code with deferreds
Back when deferred_cb stuff had its own queue, the queue was always
executed, but we never ran more than 16 callbacks per iteration.
That made for two problems:
1: Because deferred_cb stuff would always run, and had no priority,
it could cause priority inversion.
2: It doesn't respect the max_dispatch_interval code.
Then, when I refactored deferred_cb to be a special case of
event_callback, that solved the above issues, but made for two more
issues:
3: Because deferred_cb stuff would always get the default priority,
it could could low-priority bufferevents to get too much priority.
4: With code like bufferevent_pair, it's easy to get into a
situation where two deferreds keep adding one another, preventing
the event loop from ever actually scanning for more events.
This commit fixes the above by giving deferreds a better notion of
priorities, and by limiting the number of deferreds that can be
added to the _current_ loop iteration's active queues. (Extra
deferreds are put into the active_later state.)
That isn't an all-purpose priority inversion solution, of course: for
that, you may need to mess around with max_dispatch_interval.

Add "active later" event_callbacks to supersede deferred
An event or event callback can now be in an additional state: "active
later". When an event is in this state, it will become active the
next time we run through the event loop. This lets us do what we
wanted to with deferred callbacks: make a type of active thing that
avoids infinite circular regress in a way that starves other events or
exhausts the stack. It improves on deferred callbacks by respecting
priorities, and by having a non-kludgy way to avoid event starvation.

Refactor the callback part of an event into its own event_callback type
This shouldn't have any visible effect, but it's necessary or
advisible for a few changes and cleanups I would like to make,
including:
* Replacing the deferred queue with a type that works more as if it
were an event.
* Introducing a useful "activate this on the next round through the
event loop" state for events and deferreds.
* Adding an "on until further notice" status for events, to allow a
saner win32-hybrid approach.
* Eventually, making all user callbacks first-class things with
event-like semantics.

Change evutil_weakrand_() to avoid platform random()
This change allows us to avoid perturbing the platform's random(), and
to avoid hitting locks on random() in the platform's libc.
evutil_weakrand_() is, well, weak, so we choose here an algorithm that
favors speed over a number of other possibly desirable properties.
We're using a linear congruential generator, and taking our parameters
from those shared by the OpenBSD random() implementation, and
Glibc's fastest random() implementation.
The low bits of a LCG of modulus 2^32 are (notoriously) less random
than the higher bits. So to generate a random value in a range, using
the % operator is no good; we ought to divide. We add an
evutil_weakrand_range_() function to do that.
This code also changes the interface of evutil_weakrand_() so that it
now manipulates an explicit seed, rather than having the seed in a
static variable. This change enables us to use existing locks to
achieve thread-safety, rather than having to rely on an additional lock.

Have all visible internal function names end with an underscore.
We haven't had a convention for naming internal functions in -internal.h
versus naming visible functions in include/**.h. This patch changes every
function declared in a -internal.h file to be named ending with an
underscore.
Static function names are unaffected, since there's no risk of calling them
from outside Libevent.
This is an automatic conversion. The script that produced was made by
running the following script over the output of

Fix all identifiers with names beginning with underscore.
These are reserved in C. We'd been erroneously using them to indicate
internal use.
Instead, we now use a trailing underscore whenever we'd been using a leading
underscore.
This is an automatic conversion. The script that produced was made by

Convert include-guard macro convention to avoid reserved identifiers
Previously we used include-guards with names like _EVENT2_EVENT_H_.
But C reserves macros beginning with an underscore for use by the
system. This patch converts all include guards for files like
include/event2/<fname.h> to be of form EVENT2_<FNAME_H>_INCLUDED_,
and all Libevent 1.x headers in include/<fname.h> to be of the form
EVENT1_<FNAME_H>_INCLUDED_, and all internal libevent headers with
names like <fname.h> to the form <FNAME_H>_INCLUDED_.
FNAME_H is here derived from fname.h by replacing every
non-macro-usable character in fname.h with an underscore, and
putting every remaining character in uppercase.

Convert event-config.h macros to avoid reserved identifiers
C reserves all identifiers beginning with an underscore for system
use. But we had been mangling our autoconf identifiers with the
prefix "_EVENT_" to avoid conflict with other programs.
Instead, we will now use the prefix "EVENT__". With any luck, the
double-underscore will still hint "here be dragons" to anybody
tempted to think that event-config.h is a stable api.
This is an automatically generated patch. The script that produced

Refactor the functions that run over every event.
Now there are appropriate "for each event", "for each fd", and "for
each signal" helpers that they can use; this makes the code a bit
simpler, and far less duplicated.
This lets me turn back on the functions I disabled when removing
eventlist.

event_base_assert_ok().
Add typedefs for the callback types.
Name fewer things "ctx".
Adds an implementation of Floyd's tortoise-and-hare algorithm to check
for circularity in TAILQs and LISTs, to avoid the abuse of flags that

Remove the eventqueue list and the ev_next pointers.
Those pointers were once used to maintain a complete list of
inserted IO and signal events. But such a list is now available by
walking over ev_io_map and ev_signal_map! So all they did was
require extra pointer operations to maintain, and extra 8-16 bytes
of storage in each struct event.
To be cowardly and keep the option of going back to having this
redundancy, I'm wrapping the removed code in a set of ifdefs.
This is a first cut; it needs cleanups and stress-testing!! In
particular, it just plain disables a couple of functions that could
probably be saved.
There seems to be a need for an evmap_{io,signal}_foreach() or something.

Use conditions instead of current_event_lock to fix a deadlock.
Avi Bab correctly noted as bug 3044479 the fact that any thread
blocking on current_event_lock will do so while holding

Our hash-table implementation stored a copy of the hash code in each

Changelist code to defer event changes until just before dispatch
This is necessary or useful for a few reasons:
1) Sometimes applications will add and delete the same event more
than once between calls to dispatch. Processing these changes
immediately is needless, and potentially expensive (especially
if we're on a system that makes one syscall per changed event).
Yes, this actually happens in practice for nonpathological
code, such as in cases where the user's callback conditionally
re-adds a non-persistent event, or where draining a buffer
turns off writing and invokes a user callback which adds more
data which in turn re-enabled writing.
2) Sometimes we can coalesce multiple changes on the same fd into
a single syscall if we know about them in advance. For
example, epoll can do an add and a delete at the same time, but
only if we have found out about both of them before we tell
epoll.
3) Sometimes adding an event that we immediately delete can cause
unintended consequences: in kqueue, this makes pending events
get reported spuriously.

Change event_base.activequeues to "array of eventlist".
Previously, event_base.activequeues was of type "array of pointers to
eventlist." This was pointless: none of the eventlists were allowed
to be NULL. Worse, it was inefficient:
- It made looking up an active event queue take two pointer
deferences instead of one, thus risking extra cache misses.
- It used more RAM than it needed to, because of the extra pointer
and the malloc overhead.
Also, this patch fixes a bug where we were saying
calloc(N,N*sizeof(X)) instead of calloc(N,sizeof(X)) when allocating
activequeues. That part, I'll backport.
Also, we warn and return -1 on failure to allocate activequeues,

Implement queued timeouts for case where many timeouts are the same.
Libevent's current timeout code is relatively optimized for the
randomly scattered timeout case, where events are added with their
timeouts in no particular order. We add and remove timeouts with
O(lg n) behavior.
Frequently, however, an application will want to have many timeouts
of the same value. For example, we might have 1000 bufferevents,
each with a 2 second timeout on reading or writing. If we knew this
were always the case, we could just put timeouts in a queue and get
O(1) add and remove behavior. Of course, a queue would give O(n)
performance for a scattered timeout pattern, so we don't want to
just switch the implementation.
This patch gives the user the ability to explicitly tag certain
timeout values as being "very common". These timeout values have a
cookie encoded in the high bits of their tv_usec field to indicate
which queue they belong on. The queues themselves are each
triggered by an entry in the minheap.
See the regress_main.c code for an example use.

Make event_del(E) block while E is running in another thread.
This gives you the property that once you have called event_del(E),
you know that E is no longer running or pending or active at all, and
