lhchavez 3a197ea7 2020-06-27T12:33:32 Make the tests pass cleanly with MemorySanitizer This change: * Initializes a few variables that were being read before being initialized. * Includes https://github.com/madler/zlib/pull/393. As such, it only works reliably with `-DUSE_BUNDLED_ZLIB=ON`.
Edward Thomson cad7a1ba 2020-06-05T08:42:38 clar: include the function name
Patrick Steinhardt e54343a4 2019-06-29T09:17:32 fileops: rename to "futils.h" to match function signatures Our file utils functions all have a "futils" prefix, e.g. `git_futils_touch`. One would thus naturally guess that their definitions and implementation would live in files "futils.h" and "futils.c", respectively, but in fact they live in "fileops.h". Rename the files to match expectations.
Patrick Steinhardt 01dda5ff 2019-06-07T08:29:32 tests: unify ignore tests into their own dir We had several occasions where tests for the gitignore had been added to status::ignore instead of the easier-to-handle attr::ignore test suite. This most likely resulted from the fact that the attr::ignore test suite is not easy to discover inside of the attr folder. Furthermore, ignore being part of the attributes code is an implementation detail, only, and thus shouldn't be stressed as much. Improve this by moving both attr::ignore and status::ignore tests into a new ignore test suite.
Patrick Steinhardt 65ad6b5a 2019-06-07T08:21:59 tests: remove accidentally checked in backup file The "ignore.c.bak" file has accidentally been checked in via commit 191649010 (ignore: test that leading whitespace is significant, 2019-05-19) and should obviously not be part of our test suites. Delete it.
Edward Thomson 4de6eb5b 2019-06-06T09:47:43 Merge pull request #5074 from libgit2/ethomson/ignore_leading_slash Ignore: only treat one leading slash as a root identifier
Edward Thomson 7d330541 2019-05-19T16:33:28 ignore: test that comments begin at position 0 Comments must have a '#' at the beginning of the line. For compatibility with git, '#' after a whitespace is a literal part of the filename.
Edward Thomson 19164901 2019-05-19T16:27:02 ignore: test that leading whitespace is significant Ensure that leading whitespace is treated as being part of the filename, eg ` foo` in an ignore file indicates that a file literally named ` foo` is ignored.
Edward Thomson 73a157e0 2019-05-19T13:29:45 ignore: test we can handle an ignore file with BOM Ensure that we can read and parse an ignore file with a UTF8 BOM.
Edward Thomson e6e6b60f 2019-05-19T12:32:06 ignore: test multiple leading slashes

Steven King Jr b50e448b 2019-03-15T13:08:18 ignore: add additional test cases
Steve King Jr e3d7bccb 2019-03-14T15:51:15 ignore: Do not match on prefix of negated patterns Matching on the prefix of a negated pattern was triggering false negatives on siblings of that pattern. e.g. Given the .gitignore: dir/* !dir/sub1/sub2/** The path `dir/a.text` would not be ignored.
Tyler Ang-Wanek bc74c53a 2019-03-14T09:59:27 Implement failing test for gitignore of complex subdirectory negation When a directory's contents are ignored, and then a glob negation is made to a nested subdir, other subdirectories are now unignored
Edward Thomson 168fe39b 2018-11-28T14:26:57 object_type: use new enumeration names Use the new object_type enumeration names within the codebase.
Edward Thomson 18e71e6d 2018-11-28T13:31:06 index: use new enum and structure names Use the new-style index names throughout our own codebase.
Patrick Steinhardt 9994cd3f 2018-06-25T11:56:52 treewide: remove use of C++ style comments C++ style comment ("//") are not specified by the ISO C90 standard and thus do not conform to it. While libgit2 aims to conform to C90, we did not enforce it until now, which is why quite a lot of these non-conforming comments have snuck into our codebase. Do a tree-wide conversion of all C++ style comments to the supported C style comments to allow us enforcing strict C90 compliance in a later commit.
Edward Thomson 3be73011 2018-06-11T18:26:22 Merge pull request #4436 from pks-t/pks/packfile-stream-free pack: rename `git_packfile_stream_free`
Patrick Steinhardt ecf4f33a 2018-02-08T11:14:48 Convert usage of `git_buf_free` to new `git_buf_dispose`
Patrick Steinhardt 20b4c175 2018-06-05T16:12:58 ignore: fix negative leading directory rules unignoring subdirectory files When computing whether a file is ignored, we simply search for the first matching rule and return whether it is a positive ignore rule (the file is really ignored) or whether it is a negative ignore rule (the file is being unignored). Each rule has a set of flags which are being passed to `fnmatch`, depending on what kind of rule it is. E.g. in case it is a negative ignore we add a flag `GIT_ATTR_FNMATCH_NEGATIVE`, in case it contains a glob we set the `GIT_ATTR_FNMATCH_HASGLOB` flag. One of these flags is the `GIT_ATTR_FNMATCH_LEADINGDIR` flag, which is always set in case the pattern has a trailing "/*" or in case the pattern is negative. The flag causes the `fnmatch` function to return a match in case a string is a leading directory of another, e.g. "dir/" matches "dir/foo/bar.c". In case of negative patterns, this is wrong in certain cases. Take the following simple example of a gitignore: dir/ !dir/ The `LEADINGDIR` flag causes "!dir/" to match "dir/foo/bar.c", and we correctly unignore the directory. But take this example: *.test !dir/* We expect everything in "dir/" to be unignored, but e.g. a file in a subdirectory of dir should be ignored, as the "*" does not cross directory hierarchies. With `LEADINGDIR`, though, we would just see that "dir/" matches and return that the file is unignored, even if it is contained in a subdirectory. Instead, we want to ignore leading directories here and check "*.test". Afterwards, we have to iterate up to the parent directory and do the same checks. To fix the issue, disallow matching against leading directories in gitignore files. This can be trivially done by just adding the `GIT_ATTR_FNMATCH_NOLEADINGDIR` to the spec passed to `git_attr_fnmatch__parse`. Due to a bug in that function, though, this flag is being ignored for negative patterns, which is fixed in this commit, as well. As a last fix, we need to ignore rules that are supposed to match a directory when our path itself is a file. All together, these changes fix the described error case.
Patrick Steinhardt 9beb73ed 2018-06-05T16:45:23 tests: status::ignore: fix style of a test
Edward Thomson 9af7fbc3 2018-01-21T14:00:50 status::renames: write NFD instead of NFC filename Update the status::renames test to create an NFD format filename in the core.precomposedunicode tests. Previously, we would create an NFC format filename. This was to take advantage of HFS+ filesystems, which always use canonically decomposed formats, and would actually write the filename to disk as an NFD filename. So previously, we could create an NFC filename, but read it normally as an NFD filename. But APFS formats do not force canonically decomposed formats for filenames, so creating an NFC filename does not get converted to NFD. Instead, the filename will be written in NFC format. Our test, therefore, does not work - when we write an NFC filename, it will _remain_ NFC. Update the test to write NFD always. This will ensure that the file will actually be canonically decomposed on all platforms: HFS+, which forces NFD, and APFS, which does not. Thus, our test will continue to ensure that an NFD filename is canonically precomposed on all filesystems.

Patrick Steinhardt 72c28ab0 2017-06-07T10:59:03 tests: status::worktree: indicate skipped tests on Win32 Some function bodies of tests which are not applicable to the Win32 platform are completely #ifdef'd out instead of calling `cl_skip()`. This leaves us with no indication that these tests are not being executed at all and may thus cause decreased scrutiny when investigating skipped tests. Improve the situation by calling `cl_skip()` instead of just doing nothing.

Patrick Steinhardt fcb2c1c8 2016-08-12T09:06:15 ignore: allow unignoring basenames in subdirectories The .gitignore file allows for patterns which unignore previous ignore patterns. When unignoring a previous pattern, there are basically three cases how this is matched when no globbing is used: 1. when a previous file has been ignored, it can be unignored by using its exact name, e.g. foo/bar !foo/bar 2. when a file in a subdirectory has been ignored, it can be unignored by using its basename, e.g. foo/bar !bar 3. when all files with a basename are ignored, a specific file can be unignored again by specifying its path in a subdirectory, e.g. bar !foo/bar The first problem in libgit2 is that we did not correctly treat the second case. While we verified that the negative pattern matches the tail of the positive one, we did not verify if it only matches the basename of the positive pattern. So e.g. we would have also negated a pattern like foo/fruz_bar !bar Furthermore, we did not check for the third case, where a basename is being unignored in a certain subdirectory again. Both issues are fixed with this commit.
Edward Thomson bbd65ad2 2016-04-11T13:39:31 tests: skip the unreadable file tests as root When running as root, skip the unreadable file tests, because, well, they're probably _not_ unreadable to root unless you've got some crazy NSA clearance-level honoring operating system shit going on.

Marc Strapetz ae86aa5a 2016-03-16T11:38:02 iterator: test pathlist handling for directories tree_iterator was only working properly for a pathlist containing file paths. In case of directory paths, it didn't match children which contradicts GIT_DIFF_DISABLE_PATHSPEC_MATCH and is different from index_iterator and fs_iterator. As a consequence head-to-index status reporting for a specific directory did not work properly -- all files have been reported as added. Include additional tests.

Edward Thomson ac2fba0e 2015-09-16T15:07:27 git_futils_mkdir_*: make a relative-to-base mkdir Untangle git_futils_mkdir from git_futils_mkdir_ext - the latter assumes that we own everything beneath the base, as if it were being called with a base of the repository or working directory, and is tailored towards checkout and ensuring that there is no bogosity beneath the base that must be cleaned up. This is (at best) slow and (at worst) unsafe in the larger context of a filesystem where we do not own things and cannot do things like unlink symlinks that are in our way.

Edward Thomson 191e97a0 2015-05-18T18:15:17 diff conflicts: don't include incorrect ID Since a diff entry only concerns a single entry, zero the information for the index side of a conflict. Edward Thomson 7c948014 2015-05-14T14:00:29 diff/status: introduce conflicts When diffing against an index, return a new `GIT_DELTA_CONFLICTED` delta type for items that are conflicted. For a single file path, only one delta will be produced (despite the fact that there are multiple entries in the index). Index iterators now have the (optional) ability to return conflicts in the index. Prior to this change, they would be omitted, and callers (like diff) would omit conflicted index entries entirely.

Carlos Martín Nieto 659cf202 2015-01-07T12:23:05 Remove the signature from ref-modifying functions The signature for the reflog is not something which changes dynamically. Almost all uses will be NULL, since we want for the repository's default identity to be used, making it noise. In order to allow for changing the identity, we instead provide git_repository_set_ident() and git_repository_ident() which allow a user to override the choice of signature.
Carlos Martín Nieto e0a97416 2014-12-05T16:31:14 ignore: adjust test for negating inside a dir Given top !top/foo in an ignore file, we should not unignore top/foo. Ungureanu Marius 68182085 2014-11-07T20:32:50 git_status_file now takes an exact path This function has one output but can match multiple files, which can be unexpected for the user, which would usually path the exact path of the file he wants the status of.
Carlos Martín Nieto f1a7906f 2014-11-06T11:47:50 submodules: add failing test for stale module entries We consider an entry in .gitmodules to mean that we have a submodule at a particular path, even if HEAD^{tree} and the index do not contain any reference to it. We should ignore that submodule entry and simply consider that path to be a regular directory.
Carlos Martín Nieto 0798b014 2014-10-04T11:48:50 ignore: add failing test for a file mentioning the parent When we mention "src" in src/.gitignore, we wrongly consider src/ itself to be ignored.

Rob Rix bbe13802 2014-06-12T14:19:34 Demonstrate a trailing slash failure. `git help ignore` has this to say about trailing slashes: > If the pattern ends with a slash, it is removed for the purpose of > the following description, but it would only find a match with a > directory. In other words, foo/ will match a directory foo and > paths underneath it, but will not match a regular file or a > symbolic link foo (this is consistent with the way how pathspec > works in general in Git). Sure enough, having manually performed the same steps as this test, `git status` tells us the following: # On branch master # # Initial commit # # Changes to be committed: # (use "git rm --cached <file>..." to unstage) # # new file: force.txt # # Untracked files: # (use "git add <file>..." to include in what will be committed) # # ../.gitignore # child1/ # child2/ i.e. neither child1 nor child2 is ignored.
Carlos Martín Nieto aa5cdf63 2014-06-04T11:57:53 status: failing test with slash-star When writing 'bin/*' in the rules, this means we ignore very file inside bin/ individually, but do not ignore the directory itself. Thus the status listing should list both files under bin/, one untracked and one ignored.

Russell Belfer f554611a 2014-05-06T12:41:26 Improve checks for ignore containment The diff code was using an "ignored_prefix" directory to track if a parent directory was ignored that contained untracked files alongside tracked files. Unfortunately, when negative ignore rules were used for directories inside ignored parents, the wrong rules were applied to untracked files inside the negatively ignored child directories. This commit moves the logic for ignore containment into the workdir iterator (which is a better place for it), so the ignored-ness of a directory is contained in the frame stack during traversal. This allows a child directory to override with a negative ignore and yet still restore the ignored state of the parent when we traverse out of the child. Along with this, there are some problems with "directory only" ignore rules on container directories. Given "a/*" and "!a/b/c/" (where the second rule is a directory rule but the first rule is just a generic prefix rule), then the directory only constraint was having "a/b/c/d/file" match the first rule and not the second. This was fixed by having ignore directory-only rules test a rule against the prefix of a file with LEADINGDIR enabled. Lastly, spot checks for ignores using `git_ignore_path_is_ignored` were tested from the top directory down to the bottom to deal with the containment problem, but this is wrong. We have to test bottom to top so that negative subdirectory rules will be checked before parent ignore rules. This does change the behavior of some existing tests, but it seems only to bring us more in line with core Git, so I think those changes are acceptable.
Russell Belfer cd424ad5 2014-04-28T16:39:53 Add GIT_STATUS_OPT_UPDATE_INDEX and use trace API This adds an option to refresh the stat cache while generating status. It also rips out the GIT_PERF stuff I had an makes use of the trace API to keep statistics about what happens during diff.
Russell Belfer 0f603132 2014-05-01T14:47:33 Improve handling of fake home directory There are a few tests that set up a fake home directory and a fake GLOBAL search path so that we can test things in global ignore or attribute or config files. This cleans up that code to work more robustly even if there is a test failure. This also fixes some valgrind warnings where scanning search paths for separators could end up doing a little bit of sketchy data access when coming to the end of search list.
Russell Belfer 9c8ed499 2014-04-29T15:05:58 Remove trace / add git_diff_perfdata struct + api
Russell Belfer b23b112d 2014-04-29T11:29:49 Add payloads, bitmaps to trace API This is a proposed adjustment to the trace APIs. This makes the trace levels into a bitmask so that they can be selectively enabled and adds a callback-level payload, plus a message-level payload. This makes it easier for me to a GIT_TRACE_PERF callbacks that are simply bypassed if the PERF level is not set.
Russell Belfer 225aab5d 2014-04-28T16:47:39 Don't use trace if GIT_TRACE not defined
Russell Belfer 8ef4e11a 2014-04-28T14:16:26 Skip diff oid calc when size definitely changed When we think the stat cache in the index seems valid and the size or mode of a file has definitely changed, then don't bother trying to recalculate the OID of the workdir bits to confirm that it is modified - just accept that it is modified. This can result in files that show as modified with no actual diff, but the behavior actually appears to match Git on the command line. This also includes a minor optimization to not perform a submodule lookup on the ".git" directory itself.
Russell Belfer 6b833e3a 2014-04-24T15:40:50 Improve docs for status rename detection limits and make tests empty on platforms without iconv support.
Russell Belfer f608f3bb 2014-04-24T15:25:01 Test toggling core.precomposeunicode yields rename There is an interesting difference with core Git here, though. Because libgit2 will do rename detection with the working directory, in the last case where the HEAD and the working directory both have the decomposed data and the index has the composed data, we generate a single status record with two renames whereas Git will generate one rename (head to index) and one untracked file.
Russell Belfer 2334e3d8 2014-04-24T14:46:59 Test decomposed unicode renames work as expected
Russell Belfer 916fcbd6 2014-04-18T14:42:40 Fix ignore difference from git with trailing /* Ignore patterns that ended with a trailing '/*' were still needing to match against another actual '/' character in the full path. This is not the same behavior as core Git. Instead, we strip a trailing '/*' off of any patterns that were matching and just take it to imply the FNM_LEADING_DIR behavior.
Russell Belfer 50e46d60 2014-04-18T10:58:01 Cleanup tests with helper functions
Russell Belfer 6a0956e5 2014-04-18T10:32:35 Pop ignore only if whole relative path matches When traversing the directory structure, the iterator pushes and pops ignore files using a vector. Some directories don't have ignore files, so it uses a path comparison to decide when it is right to actually pop the last ignore file. This was only comparing directory suffixes, though, so a subdirectory with the same name as a parent could result in the parent's .gitignore being popped off the list ignores too early. This changes the logic to compare the entire relative path of the ignore file.
Russell Belfer 823c0e9c 2014-04-17T11:53:13 Fix broken logic for attr cache invalidation The checks to see if files were out of date in the attibute cache was wrong because the cache-breaker data wasn't getting stored correctly. Additionally, when the cache-breaker triggered, the old file data was being leaked.
Russell Belfer a9528b8f 2014-04-14T15:59:48 Fix core.excludesfile named .gitignore Ignore rules with slashes in them are matched using FNM_PATHNAME and use the path to the .gitignore file from the root of the repository along with the path fragment (including slashes) in the ignore file itself. Unfortunately, the relative path to the .gitignore file was being applied to the global core.excludesfile if that was also named ".gitignore". This fixes that with more precise matching and includes test for ignore rules with leading slashes (which were the primary example of this being broken in the real world). This also backports an improvement to the file context logic from the threadsafe-iterators branch where we don't rely on mutating the key of the attribute file name to generate the context path.

Russell Belfer 8f7bc646 2014-04-10T16:33:39 Fix bug popping ignore files during wd iteration There were a couple bugs in popping ignore files during iteration that could result in incorrect decisions be made and thus ignore files below the root either not being loaded correctly or not being popped at the right time. One bug was an off-by-one in comparing the path of the gitignore file with the path being exited during iteration. The second bug was not correctly truncating the path being tracked during traversal if there were no ignores on the list (i.e. when you have no .gitignore at the root, but do have some in contained directories).
Russell Belfer eb7e17cc 2014-04-08T14:47:20 Update submodules with parent-tracked content This updates how libgit2 treats submodule-like directories that actually have tracked content inside of them. This is a strange corner case, but it seems that many people have abortive submodule setups and then just went ahead and added the files into the parent repository. In this case, we should just treat the submodule as if it was a normal directory. Libgit2 will still try to skip over real submodules and contained repositories that do not have tracked files inside them, but this adds some new handling for cases where the apparently submodule data is in conflict with the actual list of tracked files.

Russell Belfer a15c7802 2014-03-25T09:14:48 Make submodules externally refcounted `git_submodule` objects were already refcounted internally in case the submodule name was different from the path at which it was stored. This makes that refcounting externally used as well, so `git_submodule_lookup` and `git_submodule_add_setup` return an object that requires a `git_submodule_free` when done.
