The idea is we reserve 8 external format ID for these driver defined formats. Each ID represents one uniquely defined external format. Then we will use this format ID pass around ANGLE just like any other format ID. Eventually vulkan backend will convert this formatID to the actual external format structure that returned from driver. Right now we reserved 8 IDs for this usage. Based on our survey, this is more than enough for now. We will deal with it if we need more than 8 in future. This CL is split from Chris Forbes's CL on android gerrit. Shahbaz Youssefi 8d4331ee 2020-09-16T00:42:08 Vulkan: Free up 5 bits in RenderPassDesc Leveraging the fact that there are only a handful of depth/stencil formats, the last element of RenderPassDesc::mAttachmentFormats can contain other information in addition to the depth/stencil format ID. The FormatID enum is rearranged such that depth/stencil formats are placed first, as a result occupying values in [1, 7]. These values take up 3 bits in an element of RenderPassDesc::mAttachmentFormats (which could be the last element if all color draw buffers are attached). As a result, the upper 5 bits of the last element of RenderPassDesc::mAttachmentFormats is unused. It is intended for these bits to be used in the implementation of multisampled-render-to-texture depth/stencil renderbuffers. Jamie Madill ee21a187 2019-07-04T08:51:34 Store angle::Format in gl::VertexAttribute. Instead of storing type/size/normalized/pureInteger we instead store a pointer to the angle::Format. This makes some code logic simpler and will let us more easily check if a vertex attribute format changes in calls to VertexAttribPointer or VertexAttribFormat. This CL adds extra information to angle::Format to represent the vertex format info needed. It also caches the channel count so that it can be queried faster. Also renames "Int" -> "Sint" in UtilsVk for consistency. A new VertexArrayVk::convertVertexBuffer() function is added that has the same functionality in gpu (with some assumptions, where the CPU fallback is used should those assumptions fail). Currently, the only requirement is that buffer offset/stride are divided by the component size. ConvertVertex.comp is the shader responsible for this conversion, and it implements the functionality in renderer/copyvertex.inc, minus a few functions that are not used in the Vulkan backend. Because Vulkan format support is not able to be fully determined until runtime, we'll need a dynamic way to build the table. Jamie Madill c99518fc 2016-08-09T11:10:38 Move default ANGLE format map to shared location. This default format mapping serves as a base for a Renderer format mapping. Any formats that require emulation or other representation in a Renderer can be overridden in the renderer layer. Jamie Madill a5ac1e16 2016-08-09T11:10:28 D3D9: Use angle::Format when possible. This will unify the way we call into PackPixels and also cleans u the code. It required adding a few D3D9-specific formats to the table. Jamie Madill a5b1561e 2016-08-09T11:10:27 Place format info in angle::Format. Some bits of information, like the copy functions and mipmap gen functions, can be shared across back-ends in the angle::Format class. Also name the info struct angle::Format, and use an enum class angle::Format::ID to identify the particular format. This patch introduces a new table generator for angle formats and updates the D3D11 generator accordingly.
