Functionally, things are the same for PPOs, but Programs are being updated to use the boolean ProgramExecutable::mIsCompute rather than checking the linked shader stages to determine draw vs compute. Slightly unrelated, but this CL also removes the unused function ProgramPipeline::hasImages() which was missed in one of the earlier CLs in this relation chain. This requires saving the ProgramExecutable when linkProgram() succeeds, and not overwriting it with subsequent linkProgram() calls unil the next successful one. To achieve this, the new member ProgramState::mLinkedExecutable will point to the last successfully linked ProgramExecutable and ProgramState::mExecutable will point to a new ProgramExecutable when the next linkProgram() is attempted. If the link fails, the newly allocated ProgramExecutable will be delete()'ed and mExecutable will point to the previous 'good' ProgramExecutable still being tracked by mLinkedExecutable. If it succeeds, the old mLinkedExecutable will be delete()'ed and mLinkedExecutable will be updated to point to the ne one. Rafael Cintron 5d01d538 2020-05-12T18:13:52 Resolve Bad Binary Link Failures When ANGLE_PROGRAM_BINARY_LOAD is enabled, Program::loadBinary unconditionally returns angle::Result::Continue to the caller. The caller, gl::Program::link, postpones the resolution of the link until resolveLinkImpl. Unfortunately, resolveLinkImpl is not able to tell whether the link failed because the shader from the developer is bad or because the loaded binary is not compatible with the backend. The former case should fail link. In the latter case, we should fallback to linking the program from the original shader sources. The loaded binary could be read from the on-disk shader cache and be corrupted or serialized with different revision and subsystem id than the currently loaded ANGLE backend. This fix adjusts Program::loadBinary and ProgramD3D::load so that angle::Result::Incomplete is returned to gl::Program::link when the binary is incompatible with the backend. gl::Program:link falls back to compilation from original shader sources. Since no code checks the return value of SizedMRUCache::eraseByKey, modified it to now return void. This is necessary due to requiring the shader information for validating shader interfaces, varyings, etc. Instead, a new ShaderMap of bools will be stored in ProgramState::mAttachedShadersMarkedForDetach to track when a caller attempts to detach a shader from a separable Program. Later, when a new shader is attached, we will first validate that the old shader is marked to be detached, and if so, release it then. Shahbaz Youssefi e5385ea9 2020-01-27T13:40:18 Vulkan: Compile shaders at link time Since line raster emulation was changed to use specialization constants, it has been possible to compile shaders at link time. However, program pipeline objects would have required keeping the shader sources around for recompilation. Now that all necessary decorations are modified directly in SPIR-V, it's possible to compile the shaders at link time and forget about their sources. Program pipeline objects then simply "reconfigure" the generated SPIR-V. A next step could be to also create the Vulkan pipeline object at link time. A number of failures due to gaps in CTS testing prevent that work currently. In particular, in some situations the generated SPIR-V is not per spec, for example it may contain vertex attributes with aliasing locations, or have transform feedback capture of array elements misconfigured. The change that introduced atomic counters to the front-end placed them at the end of the uniforms list too, but the image range loop was not adjusted to take this fact into account (neither was the sampler range loop for that matter). If a shader used both images and atomic counter buffers, the image range was calculated as empty. Similar issues would arise if the shader used both samplers and atomic counters. A test is added where a shader has a default uniform, a UBO, an SSBO, an image and an atomic counter, to make sure any combination of these resources doesn't result in a bug. Tim Van Patten c5c096aa 2019-11-15T15:36:16 Enable Compute Shader Program Input Queries Compute shader inputs were not being tracked in the Shader or Program states, causing program interface queries to fail. This change treats compute shader inputs (all built-ins) as Attributes and pipes them through from the Compiler to the Program to enable input queries. While compute shader inputs are not technically attributes (or varyings), the ANGLE code understands and handles attributes and a program can never have both a vertex and compute shader, so there can't be any conflicts. The naming of these variable lists should probabaly be revisited at some point to better handle these different use-cases. Didn't check if texture unit is sampler complete 2. Only checked active drawbuffers. But drawbuffer settings shouldn't be taken into account when checking drawing feedback loop. On top of applying these 2 functional fixes, I also tried to do some optimization by unwrapping the nested for loop for program sampler bindings and texture unit in `Program::samplesFromTexture` and putting them outside of the draw buffer loop according to the old comment by Antonie @piman. https://codereview.chromium.org/2461973002/ > ... turning it around (for each texture check if it's also an attachment, instead of for each attachment check if it's a bound texture). In particular, we have an upper bound on the number of attachments, so we can look them up outside the loop into a fixed size buffer on the stack - and the very common case will be to only have 1 of them making the inner loop cheap. But this unwraps sort of breaks the code structure. An alternative way would be passed in a framebuffer pointer into `Program::samplesFromTexture` but that would ends up in tight class coupling. I am a bit unsure here. Would like to hear if think this change is okay in terms of code style. In addition to further speed up this check (as it runs for every draw validation) I added a cache mLastColorAttachmentId indicating the last i of GL_COLORATTACHMENTi that is not GL_NONE to shorten this inner loop. In most scenario we won't have up to max number of color attachments. A side note: this is still failing https://github.com/KhronosGroup/WebGL/blob/master/sdk/tests/conformance2/rendering/depth-stencil-feedback-loop.html But it's because the test case doesn't fit the spec at this moment. The main change is the function gl::Context::DrawElements being inlined to reduce the calling depth by one. In addition the call to ContextGL::syncDrawElementsState is now protected so that it gets called only if it's required. Finally a few small getter functions have been inlined where the calling code was bigger than the actual function. In total this change improves performance of the DrawElementsPerfBenchmark.Run/gl benchmark by 16%. Previously the generated code would return a pointer instead of a value. Improves performance in the most targeted microbenchmark by 10%. In more realistic scanarios it will have a smaller improvement. Also simplifies the class implementation and usage. Includes some unrelated code generation changes. Instead we use a set of dirty bits to represent dirty texture samples. We mark certain textures dirty and update state structures whenever there is a new Texture/Program/Sampler bound, or when Texture/Program/Sampler state changes. This is in preparation for making clearing the uncleared active textures into a dirty bit as well. Also includes new dirty bit handling for texture image units. These are a GLES 3.1 feature.
