In [1], the program is transformed to not output transform feedback

Upstream latest changes to Metal backend from Apple to 7/1/2021
This CL merges in the ANGLE changes between these two WebKit commits:
https://git.webkit.org/?p=WebKit.git;a=commit;h=8648b353ab1d7730438c2e08319e1a4d64982c31
https://git.webkit.org/?p=WebKit.git;a=commit;h=166e4924a52971d6a32ad48247a439b16c00e062
Include provoking vertex buffer out of bounds fix
from https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=230107
Fix bad merge of resetting of dirty bits, breaking
DepthStencilFormatsTest.DepthTextureRender test and perhaps others.
Disable GL_APPLE_clip_distance when the direct-to-Metal compiler is
active. It can not yet handle the gl_ClipDistance array.
Disable use of rectangular textures for IOSurfaces. Metal can bind
IOSurfaces to 2D textures, and this was passing all tests in the
SPIR-V Metal backend. Introducing rectangular textures breaks the
SPIR-V Metal backend, and the tests currently fail on the
direct-to-Metal backend.
Fix several bugs with ProvokingVertex, which was causing
both the SpirV and Direct backends to incorrectly draw
indices.
Skip the following tests on the Metal backend which is still failing
RobustResourceInitTestES3.BlitDepthStencilAfterClearBuffer
GLSLTest_ES3.GLVertexIDIntegerTextureDrawArrays/ES3_Metal
With these changes, angle_end2end_tests again runs to completion.

Translator: Fix pruning functions that declare a struct
When pruning unused functions, the entire declaration of the function is
removed. If the function declares a struct as part of its return value,
the declaration of that struct was lost. This change makes sure that
declaration survives the pruning. For example:
struct S { vec4 v; } unused_func() { ... }
is now replaced with:
struct S { vec4 v; };
This change also makes struct usage validation more stringent.

InitializeVariables: Init shader IO block outputs.
These variables were not handled in the pass because we had no prior
test coverage of them. Some frame capture testing uncovered this gap.
The variables must be initialized field-by-field, since there seems

Translator: Validate precisions
When declaring a variable, a struct field, function parameter etc,
there's a precision necessarily applied to the entity being declared.
AST Validation is added to enforce this. Intermediate nodes derive
their precision from these entities automatically.
Consistency of intermediate nodes is not validated. This is because AST
transformations replace a node with a transformed one, and that may not
have the same precision. Take the following code:
mediump float x = ...;
mediump float y = ...;
... x + y ...
and assume is transformed as such:
highp float driver_uniform;
... (x * driver_uniform) + y ...
The addition was originally done in mediump, but would seemingly need to
be done in highp after transformation. There are a number of options
here:
- Make sure that when nodes are replaced, the precision is unaffected.
This can be intrusive, requiring temp variables.
- Bubble up the new precision
- Accept the discrepancy
ANGLE opts for the last option, which actually respects the original
shader's intended precision for operations, even if some transformation
needs to temporarily evaluate an expression at a higher precision.

Translator: Be more explicit about precisions
GLSL ES requires that every symbol (variable, block member, function
parameter and return value) is appropriately qualified with a precision,
either individually or through the global precision specifier.
Some tree transformations however produced symbols with EbpUndefined
precision. In text GLSL output, these would produce unqualified symbols
which was often incorrect.
In this change, the transformations are made to produce explicit / more
consistent precisions. The validation (that caught these issues) is not
included in this change as there are still a few corner cases left to
address.

Translator: Clean up type cloning
TType has a constructor that aids cloning + helpers to convert between
types. A number of places where a type is constructed from the
information gathered from another type is changed to clone the type and
then use one of these helpers.
This clean up is part of an ongoing work to improve precision handling.
This change removes many references to TType::getPrecision().

Vulkan: SPIR-V Gen: Fix gl_Clip/CullDistance
These built-ins can be redeclared in the shader. The translator took
these redeclarations (and gl_LastFragData) as UserDefined symbols.
There were a number of hacks such as in name generation and
CollectVariables, to special-case these redeclarations.
This change instead makes sure that these variables continue to be
considered built-ins with the appropriate qualifiers. A number of fixes
are made accordingly:
- Hacks are removed.
- In fragment shaders, ANGLEClipDistance was initialized with
gl_ClipDistance for further use by the shader. The code generation
however mistakenly produced `gl_ClipDistance[0] =
ANGLEClipDistance[0];`, which caused compilation failures by glslang,
but passed the tests accidentally because they expected link failures
(see next item).
- CollectVariables is fixed to correctly collect gl_Clip/CullDistance
in fragment shaders; previously they were collected as output
varyings, and therefore the aforementioned link error was not produced
in the tests after the compilation error was fixed.
Additional fixes:
- The transformation of gl_Clip/CullDistance was always ever done on one
of them due to misplaced breaks in the loop that detected their
presence.
- The transformation of gl_CullDistance was skipped when it was not
redeclared.
Validation is added to make sure these built-ins always have the correct
qualifier even when redeclared. SPIR-V gen support for these variables
have been fixed as well.

variable_ should be done precisely (i.e. not "contracted").
A tree traverser is implemented that detects precise access chains and
applies precise-ness to the right hand side of assignment expressions to
said access chains. This is only done if the shader uses the precise
keyword in the first place. The algorithm for this is inspired by the
implementation in glslang.
This change additionally:
- Fixes parser to allow precise on function parameters
- Fixes GLSL code generation to output precise on struct members and
function parameters.

Translator: Make sure built-in variables are consistent
Some transformations left the tree in an inconsistent state, for example
if it used gl_SampleMask from ES3.1+OES_sample_variables and the
transformation added a usage of gl_SampleMask from ES3.2. The offending
transformations are fixed and AST validation is improved to catch such
errors.

Translator: Validate function parameter qualifiers
This change cleans up a confusion in EvqConst and EvqConstReadOnly,
where the former was frequently used instead of the latter for function
parameters.
The change makes the following renames to make the intent of the
relevant qualifiers clearer:
EvqIn -> EvqParamIn
EvqOut -> EvqParamOut
EvqInOut -> EvqParamInOut
EvqConstReadOnly -> EvqParamConst

Vulkan: SPIR-V Gen: Fix I/O block arrays
Since the qualifier on intermediate nodes are EvqTemporary, the code
that autodeduced the block storage of I/O blocks was incorrectly
assigning them std140 when an indexed I/O block array was encountered.
This resulted in duplicate types in the SPIR-V. This is generally
benign (other than creating an unnecessary type) except for gl_PerVertex
as it adds BuiltIn decorations. gl_PerVertex may be an array in
geometry and tessellation shaders.

Translator: Allow subpassLoad in AST in ESSL
subpassLoad is available to desktop GLSL, but not GLSL ES. With this
change, subpassLoad is made available internally to the AST so that
framebuffer fetch's use of this built-in can be simplified.
Additionally, this makes the tree more consistent in that there's no
function call without a corresponding function declaration.
A follow up change will add an AST validation to enforce this.

Fix multiple end2end crashes in direct-to-MSL compiler.
This set of changes:
- Adds a single place (CompilerMtl::useDirectToMSLCompiler) where the
direct-to-MSL compiler can be enabled, still at compile time rather
than run time. It is still disabled by default.
- Initializes MTLWaitableCompileEventImpl::mShader, without which all
shader compiles crash.
- Fixes a mismatch of the ANGLERasterizerDisabled variable name in
the generated MSL.
- Removes the transform feedback bindings as an argument to the
vertex shader's main0(). Transform feedback support needs to be
reimplemented in this compiler backend.
- Added an option to the DriverUniform class to emit as either an
interface block or a struct. The direct-to-MSL backend assumes it
is a struct.
- Disable variable reference validation when referencing either
sample mask or rasterizer discard functionality in the shader.
- Disable struct usage validation when inserting references to
ANGLE_TextureEnv. This occurs during pipeline rewriting and it's
infeasible to disable it at that point, so disable it during
pipeline rewriting - which means it's disabled for all shaders.
- For angle_end2end_tests, disable the file API hooking which
disables the Metal shader cache. This speeds up the tests
significantly - by roughly a factor of 5.
With these changes, several hundred angle_end2end_tests run without
any assertion failures, though still with many test failures. The next
crash is in:
GLSLTest.NamelessScopedStructs/ES2_Metal
and will likely require a larger bug fix, or more changes to be
upstreamed from WebKit's repository.

Translator: Generate Ops for all built-in functions
EOpCallBuiltInFunction is removed in this change, as well as the
"op": "auto" property in builtin_function_declarations.txt. Instead,
gen_builtin_symbols.py automatically generates Ops for every built-in

This simplifies SPIR-V code generation by allowing switches to be used

Translator: Ensure structs and blocks are uniquely defined
A new AST validation is added to ensure that the same TStructure or
TInterfaceBlock is not redundantly defined. This helps with SPIR-V
generation by allowing the id to be used as key in a hash map that looks
up the corresponding SPIR-V type id.
A bug is fixed where the Vulkan driver uniform declaration created two
identical declarations for ANGLEDepthRangeParams.
A number of other bugs are also fixed in this change, where if a
variable declaration is eliminated (for example due to constant folding,
or inactive interface variable removal) and it contained a struct
specifier, the struct declaration was also removed. OutputGLSLBase had
a hack where structs were declared on first encounter, which was
incorrect as the scope of the declaration could change. Those bugs are
fixed and this hack is removed.

Translator: Enable geometry and tessellation in ES3.2
Symbols that these extensions introduced were only accepted if the
extension directive was present. This is not necessary for es 320
shaders. This change adds a new tag to builtin variable and function
declarations in the translator, namely "essl_extension_becomes_core_in"
which makes gen_builtin_symbols.py automatically create two entries for
the builtin; one with the specified level and extension, one with the
core level and without extension. Entries in
builtin_function_declarations.txt can potentially be deduplicated as a
follow up to take advantage of this tag, though likely an anologous
"glsl_extension_becomes_core_in" needs to be introduced.

Vulkan: Translator pass to monomorphize problematic functions
With array of array of samplers and images, we currently require the
shader*ArrayDynamicIndexing Vulkan features. With atomic counters, we
require the shaderStorageBufferArrayDynamicIndexing feature.
The above features are required to enable passing opaque uniforms to
functions. This change introduces a translator pass that monomorphizes
functions that receive atomic counters, or partially subscripted array
of array of samplers or images, etc by removing those arguments and
using the opaque uniform directly.
Follow up changes will include:
- Great simplification to RewriteStructSamplers, and removal of
RewriteStructSamplersOld. This will drop dependency to
shaderSampledImageArrayDynamicIndexing and
shaderStorageImageArrayDynamicIndexing.
- Great simplification to RewriteAtomicCounters. This will drop
dependency to shaderStorageBufferArrayDynamicIndexing.
- Emulation of imageAtomicExchange for r32f formats, but changing the
qualifier to r32ui.
Note that parts of RewriteStructSampler are obsolete with this change,
but will be refactored as a follow up.

Vulkan: Generate gl_Position pre-rotation in SPIR-V
Instead of having the translator output pre-rotation code in the vertex
stage based on a specialization constant, this change makes the SPIR-V
transformer perform pre-rotation of gl_Position on the last geometry
stage.
An alternative solution would be to generate pre-rotation code in the
translator in every geometry stage, each controlled by a separate
specialization constant. This change avoids unnecessary modifications
to earlier stages. The generated shaders are also smaller, as they
don't contain a mat2[8] pre-rotation constant matrix. The SPIR-V
transformer knows the pre-rotation at transformation time, so it can
simply use swizzles to achieve the same results.
This also ties in with upcoming changes which move gl_Position.z
correction to the last geometry shader stage, which is trivially done
piggy-backing on the infrastructure in this change.

There are a few places that will remain std::unordered_map due to build

determine if they should remain std::unordered_map or if there is
another Abseil data structure that would be more efficient while still

Vulkan: Use specialization constant for halfRenderAreaWidth
halfRenderArea is used by fragment shader to adjust gl_FragCoord for
rotation and yflip compensation. This CL bakes halfRenderAreaWidth into
shader via specialization constant, thus allow compiler to consolidate

Vulkan: Track specialization constant usage bit and feedback to ctx
Right now context does not know which specialization constant is used by
the shader. Whenever a specialization constant changes, we assume shader
program is using it, we always reach into vulkan driver to ask for a new
program. Instead we can track shader's usage of specialization constant
so that context can utilize this information to avoid recompile pipeline
program if an unused specialization constant has changed.
This CL implements the plumbing the usage bits form compiler to program
object, it does not actually utilize the usage bits to avoid unnecessary
compilation yet.

Vulkan: Factor out DriverUniform code to tree_utils/DriverUniform.cpp
The driver uniform code is used by various tree_ops functions. But all
driver uniform code are defined and implemented in the
TranslatorVulkan.cpp file. There is dependency rule that tree_ops code
can not call into vulkan specific function. Right now we are working
around this problem by always having TranslatorVulkan creates uniform
and pass it down to tree_ops. This creates inefficiency for cases that
dFdy/dFdx where we don't know if we will need the driver uniform or not,
until we walk the tree and see the dFdx node. This CL refactors driver
uniform code into its own file and class under tree_utils so that
everybody can use. Mean time we can also make it much easier for metal
to expand it to have its own uniform structure.

Implement GL_APPLE_clip_distance
- Built-in variable gl_ClipDistance has been added to compiler.
- Desktop GL: gl_ClipDistance is supported since GL 3.0. Enable/Disable
each gl_ClipDistances[i] works out of the box via glEnable().
- Vulkan/Metal: Use uniform variable to control writing to each
gl_ClipDistance. One bit flag controls one element in the gl_ClipDistance
array. The writing to the disabled element in vertex shader will be
ignored, and turned into zero assignment instead.
- Direct3D/Mobile GL: Not implemented yet.
- Added ClipDistanceTest to gl_tests and compiler unittests.
- GL_APPLE_clip_distance is a subset of GL_EXT_clip_cull_distance, so
GL_EXT_clip_cull_distance could be implemented in future if needed.

Add support for non-float mix
The non-float variations of the mix builtin were conditioned to desktop
GLSL, but they are present in ESSL 3.1+. This change also implements
constant folding of these builtins as exercised by dEQP.

Vulkan: EXT_gpu_shader5: Fix textureGatherOffsets builtin
This function is the only builtin with arrays as parameter. A new
constexpr constructor is added to TType to support this, and
gen_builtin_symbols is changed to emit the correct type for offsets
parameter of this function.

Implement SamplerVideoWEBGL for WEBGL_video_texture extension on desktop
WEBGL_video_texture is an extension that will improve uploading video frame to WebGL performance.
This extension introduced a new texture type TEXTURE_VIDEO_IMAGE_WEBGL and a new sampler type
samplerVideoWEBGL to sample it.
In chromium implementation, TEXTURE_VIDEO_IMAGE_WEBGL maps to different native texture type
based on platform. On desktop, it maps to GL_TEXTURE2D(Currently supported). On Android, it
should map to GL_TEXTURE_EXTERNAL(TODO). SamplerVideoWEBGL needs to be mapped to sampler2D or
samplerExternalOES according to TEXTURE_VIDEO_IMAGE_WEBGL implementation.
This patch implements samplerVideoWEBGL in Angle to support WEBGL_video_texture on desktop. In
this case, samplerVideoWEBGL should map to sampler2D.
