Edward Thomson 6fc6eeb6 2021-12-24T15:14:38 remote: introduce `git_remote_connect_options` The existing mechanism for providing options to remote fetch/push calls, and subsequently to transports, is unsatisfactory. It requires an options structure to avoid breaking the API and callback signatures. 1. Introduce `git_remote_connect_options` to satisfy those needs. 2. Add a new remote connection API, `git_remote_connect_ext` that will take this new options structure. Existing `git_remote_connect` calls will proxy to that. `git_remote_fetch` and `git_remote_push` will proxy their fetch/push options to that as well. 3. Define the interaction between `git_remote_connect` and fetch/push. Connect _may_ be called before fetch/push, but _need not_ be. The semantics of which options would be used for these operations was not specified if you specify options for both connect _and_ fetch. Now these are defined that the fetch or push options will be used _if_ they were specified. Otherwise, the connect options will be used if they were specified. Otherwise, the library's defaults will be used. 4. Update the transports to understand `git_remote_connect_options`. This is a breaking change to the systems API.

Edward Thomson f0e693b1 2021-09-07T17:53:49 str: introduce `git_str` for internal, `git_buf` is external libgit2 has two distinct requirements that were previously solved by `git_buf`. We require: 1. A general purpose string class that provides a number of utility APIs for manipulating data (eg, concatenating, truncating, etc). 2. A structure that we can use to return strings to callers that they can take ownership of. By using a single class (`git_buf`) for both of these purposes, we have confused the API to the point that refactorings are difficult and reasoning about correctness is also difficult. Move the utility class `git_buf` to be called `git_str`: this represents its general purpose, as an internal string buffer class. The name also is an homage to Junio Hamano ("gitstr"). The public API remains `git_buf`, and has a much smaller footprint. It is generally only used as an "out" param with strict requirements that follow the documentation. (Exceptions exist for some legacy APIs to avoid breaking callers unnecessarily.) Utility functions exist to convert a user-specified `git_buf` to a `git_str` so that we can call internal functions, then converting it back again.
Edward Thomson 37763d38 2020-12-05T15:26:59 threads: rename git_atomic to git_atomic32 Clarify the `git_atomic` type and functions now that we have a 64 bit version as well (`git_atomic64`).
Edward Thomson 3f54ba8b 2020-01-18T13:51:40 credential: change git_cred to git_credential We avoid abbreviations where possible; rename git_cred to git_credential. In addition, we have standardized on a trailing `_t` for enum types, instead of using "type" in the name. So `git_credtype_t` has become `git_credential_t` and its members have become `GIT_CREDENTIAL` instead of `GIT_CREDTYPE`. Finally, the source and header files have been renamed to `credential` instead of `cred`. Keep previous name and values as deprecated, and include the new header files from the previous ones.
Edward Thomson a1ef995d 2019-02-21T10:33:30 indexer: use git_indexer_progress throughout Update internal usage of `git_transfer_progress` to `git_indexer_progreses`.
Patrick Steinhardt 0b3dfbf4 2018-08-09T11:13:59 smart_pkt: reorder and rename parameters of `git_pkt_parse_line` The parameters of the `git_pkt_parse_line` function are quite confusing. First, there is no real indicator what the `out` parameter is actually all about, and it's not really clear what the `bufflen` parameter refers to. Reorder and rename the parameters to make this more obvious.
Patrick Steinhardt 40fd84cc 2018-08-09T10:46:26 smart_pkt: explicitly avoid integer overflows when parsing packets When parsing data, progress or error packets, we need to copy the contents of the rest of the current packet line into the flex-array of the parsed packet. To keep track of this array's length, we then assign the remaining length of the packet line to the structure. We do have a mismatch of types here, as the structure's `len` field is a signed integer, while the length that we are assigning has type `size_t`. On nearly all platforms, this shouldn't pose any problems at all. The line length can at most be 16^4, as the line's length is being encoded by exactly four hex digits. But on a platforms with 16 bit integers, this assignment could cause an overflow. While such platforms will probably only exist in the embedded ecosystem, we still want to avoid this potential overflow. Thus, we now simply change the structure's `len` member to be of type `size_t` to avoid any integer promotion.

Edward Thomson abb04caa 2018-02-01T15:55:48 consistent header guards use consistent names for the #include / #define header guard pattern.
Patrick Steinhardt 0c7f49dd 2017-06-30T13:39:01 Make sure to always include "common.h" first Next to including several files, our "common.h" header also declares various macros which are then used throughout the project. As such, we have to make sure to always include this file first in all implementation files. Otherwise, we might encounter problems or even silent behavioural differences due to macros or defines not being defined as they should be. So in fact, our header and implementation files should make sure to always include "common.h" first. This commit does so by establishing a common include pattern. Header files inside of "src" will now always include "common.h" as its first other file, separated by a newline from all the other includes to make it stand out as special. There are two cases for the implementation files. If they do have a matching header file, they will always include this one first, leading to "common.h" being transitively included as first file. If they do not have a matching header file, they instead include "common.h" as first file themselves. This fixes the outlined problems and will become our standard practice for header and source files inside of the "src/" from now on.

Carlos Martín Nieto 8f0104ec 2015-04-21T22:10:36 Remove the callbacks struct from the remote Having the setting be different from calling its actions was not a great idea and made for the sake of the wrong convenience. Instead of that, accept either fetch options, push options or the callbacks when dealing with the remote. The fetch options are currently only the callbacks, but more options will be moved from setters and getters on the remote to the options. This does mean passing the same struct along the different functions but the typical use-case will only call git_remote_fetch() or git_remote_push() and so won't notice much difference.
Carlos Martín Nieto 9b940586 2014-07-04T12:45:43 Provide a callback for certificate validation If the certificate validation fails (or always in the case of ssh), let the user decide whether to allow the connection. The data structure passed to the user is the native certificate information from the underlying implementation, namely OpenSSL or WinHTTP.
Edward Thomson c180c065 2014-07-09T17:58:39 Custom transport: minor cleanups * Move the transport registration mechanisms into a new header under 'sys/' because this is advanced stuff. * Remove the 'priority' argument from the registration as it adds unnecessary complexity. (Since transports cannot decline to operate, only the highest priority transport is ever executed.) Users who require per-priority transports can implement that in their custom transport themselves. * Simplify registration further by taking a scheme (eg "http") instead of a prefix (eg "http://").
Carlos Martín Nieto 8156835d 2014-05-20T09:29:39 smart: store reported symrefs The protocol has a capability which allows the server to tell us which refs are symrefs, so we can e.g. know which is the default branch. This capability is different from the ones we already support, as it's not setting a flag to true, but requires us to store a list of refspec-formatted mappings. This commit does not yet expose the information in the reference listing.

Carlos Martín Nieto a6192d7c 2013-11-11T15:32:13 remote: update head list on push A previous commit forgot to update the head list after push as well, leading to wrong output of git_remote_ls().
Carlos Martín Nieto 359dce72 2013-11-02T00:05:32 remote: make _ls return the list directly The callback-based method of listing remote references dates back to the beginning of the network code's lifetime, when we didn't know any better. We need to keep the list around for update_tips() after disconnect() so let's make use of this to simply give the user a pointer to the array so they can write straightforward code instead of having to go through a callback.
Carlos Martín Nieto 2f8c481c 2013-10-08T16:22:21 protocol: basic support for multi_ack_detailed This tells the server that we speak it, but we don't make use of its extra information to determine if there's a better place to stop negotiating. In a somewhat-related change, reorder the capabilities so we ask for them in the same order as git does. Also take this opportunity to factor out a fairly-indented portion of the negotiation logic.
